Welcome to the Ghosts of York (Extended Version)
This video focuses on the hauntings of several locations in beautiful city of York. Who haunts a pub in Goodramgate, the Yorkshire museum and why are ghostly noises heard on Coney Street? There are also stories from Micklegate Bar, York Minster and Judge’s Court. This video is a combination of new material and an older video as many of you know. I have been asked why I haven’t included the Roman Soldiers at the Treasurer’s House. I just felt this has been covered elsewhere really effectively and I like to try and find different stories. I am grateful to Stephen for emailing me about his father’s experience in the church of St Martin Le Grand.

Lived in the city centre down a Snickleway for ten years in a 15th century cottage.Yes,it was haunted .A priest from the Reformation stood in the corner of the living room and a lady stood in the lane listening to the church organ. Two of the buildings I worked in also had spectral occupants.

A number of years ago my Wife and Myself stayed at the Black Swan pub...we stayed just the one night...during breakfast I put my car keys on the breakfast table we were sitting at...a few minutes later I noticed the keys had gone...thinking my Wife had picked them up I thought nothing more about it...until we stood up to leave and I asked the Wife for my keys to which she replied she hadn't touched them....we asked the staff if a member had accidently picked them up but no said they'd seen any keys.....30 minutes later the proprietor said he'd found the keys on an upper level neither Myself or the Wife had even been...this incident made me question reality.

Hello Lee yes the Black Swan pub has some great stories and that’s really interesting about your first hand experience there. In one of my early videos I covered the Prince Rupert hotel where people have found their bed pillows in completely different parts of the hotel. The Black swan hotel in this video is long gone and I believe it’s were BHS was and possibly Sports Direct now 👻🙋‍♀️

I was a college trip to York about 40 years ago; our teacher wanted us to go into Clifford's Tower - I knew nothing about - but I had such a panic stricken feeling about it I wouldn't go in. Ive since learned a lot of awful things happened there, so my instincts were spot on.

I do a ghost walk in York, and when I'm asked if people will see a ghost on my walk, I always say that ghosts rarely appear to large groups or on cue. Usually, if someone encounters a ghost, it's often at night and when they're on their own or with only one or two people.

My great grandmother worked at the Yorkshire museum when she was a young woman and when my grandma was a baby ( probably 1910s to early 1920s) she used to tell my mum stories about hearing noises and it being generally creepy, apparently they once had some Egyptian artefacts and she absolutely hated them as she said it made the place feel almost like static electricity. She said there was a ghost in the museum gardens, I believe she said it was supposedly a monk. When my grandma was a baby, they lived in a house in York, which was apparently home to the ghost of a sailor who’d been murdered in the house. There were banging noises, footsteps, smells, doors and cupboards opening and they apparently saw him once going upstairs and it also rocked my grandmas cradle.

Patricia ,it was a local author who came up with the term Snickleways . It's an amalgamation of snicket and alleyway two of the terms used in Yorkshire for a back alley . He wrote a tourist guide to walks round the alleys and passageways . The name has stuck . It's a great way to see York too. Mark W Jones .A walk round the Snickleways of York .

Hi, how are you? I'm doing well. Happy Easter to you. Awesome live ghosts stories I enjoyed it. Your ghosts stories videos are always enjoyable. I have another ghost story to tell you. When I was nine years old back in 1990. I was on a school trip. We went to an island called Wards Island. There is a lighthouse there which is haunted by a man ghost. My classmates and I went to this haunted lighthouse to check it out. One of my classmates tried to open the lighthouse door. But it would not open. It was locked. My classmate kicked the lighthouse door. When all of a sudden a man dressed in 19th century clothing. Opened the lighthouse door from inside and said to us. He said stay away from my lighthouse or I'll come and get you all. Then he vanished right before our eyes. And the lighthouse door slammed shut on its own. I and my classmates were so shocked that we ran for our lives away from the haunted lighthouse. We told our teachers what we saw. But they never believed us. I'll never forget that day back in 1990. Have a great day see you next video 😊

Hello Nicola. I finally got around to watching this, and I certainly wasn't disappointed. Yet again it is filled with very interesting historical information. The stone mason and naval apparition completely intrigued me, I thought it a lovely touch from those over the other side. Thank you once again for your wonderful research and compilation of these well put together posts. Can't wait for the next one, when you're able. ❤️👻🇦🇺

I like a good ghost story! Something I've wondered about ..think about it from the ghost's point of view... you're stuck haunting the same place, for an unknown amount of time. That would have to get old quick. Can a ghost talk to other ghosts? Or carry on real time discussions with the living? In many ways, being a ghost doesn't sound all that pleasant ..

I love York my husband worked in York for years .My husbands family home was haunted we lived there for 26 years .One of the bedrooms was haunted we think by a maid from 4 hundred years ago .She or he was quite vindictive and did lots of bizarre and nasty things .Especially if we had been away on holiday it did not want us to come home .It was angry and let us know about it .We never told many people about it because we didn’t want to be laughed at.We sold the big house and now live in a bungalow .No problems here thank god .we have a great book called the snicelways of York it’s an amazing book .Each page holds a map and a pottage history of the individual Sniclelway .

I lived in York for many years. When my daughter’s class were having a field trip in the city centre, one of the guides told the story of the apprentice who saw the Roman soldiers and horses, one of the little boys piped up “ Were they in black and white or colour?” Then when they found out the witness was a retired police officer they asked if they could visit him

Great video! I'm surprised that one of the seemingly better-known ghost sightings wasn't mentioned - the ghosts of Roman legionaries who haunt the cellar of the Treasurer's House in York. They were seen by Harry Martindale who gave a very detailed account of them. Here is a video where a tour guide in the cellar describes the sighting - (there are many other videos about it too) - kzbin.info/www/bejne/lXLRgpesfr6UpLM

I love york and went on a few occasions to visit york with my then partner Patricia we took the open top signt seeing bus that goes around york the commentary given on the bus mentioned the black swan pub or inn we decided to get off the bus at the closest stop to the pub and go for a couple of drinks there it was around 2 pm in the afternoon we had two drinks each but as soon as i had been to the bar to order our first drinks i sat down and took out my then new iphone to take a couple pictures much to the disapproval of my then partner i told her i would be discreet i wouldn't hold my phone up at eye level but would hold the phone at roughly chest level due to the fact that a number of tables were occupied i took three random pictures on my phone didnt look at them put my phone in my pocket and thought nothing more of it later when we got back to our b&b room pat asked to see the pictures from the black swan on my phone i put in the pass number and handed her my phone she was surprised at what she saw on a table not far from ours and that table was completely empty from when we arrived to when we left i still have that photo today strange but 100% true the camera never lies i believe

I’ve done the ghost tours of york not because I’m from york ( I am though) buy I’d rather do them online because there not scary in town at all yet I’ve had my own experiences of the paranormal at home if I had them in town I’d be like meh because if you’ve had them before you’ll be less so but if it’s your first time you’ll get goosebumps and you’re heart will start beating fast mine did it’s no easy if its poltergeist activity then I get annoyed because poltergeists throw your stuff on the floor forcefully it’s not super helpful
