I remember watching this on my local news network on their Friday Night movie nights. They kept advertising the TV premiere of this film during the week and really emphasized Mars candy bars as an official sponsor for the film. So i went to the corner store, bought myself a bunch of Mars bars, a bottle of Pepsi Blue and watched this. It was hype.

I saw this film as a kid in the theater when it came out in August of 2001 and I really fell in love with it. There are people who don't like it and say this is John Carpenter's most despised film but I enjoyed the hell of it as a kid and still do now 19 years later.

Originally it was Russell as Snake but Universal wanted nothing to do with that, then it was to be Russell as Williams but because Soldier did poorly they wanted a younger actor so finally it was to be Jason Statham as Williams and then out of nowhere Carpenter had Ice Cube forced on him by the studio because they thought that'd appeal to the kids. Have to say Statham would have been a much better lead, Ice Cube really takes me out the film.

It's supposed to be a Sci-Fi Action horror with the cheesiness of '80s action movies. I really love the movie. I saw it as a child and I really enjoyed it.
