When I look at these videos, my heart sinks. I never made it up to San Francisco. I was a West Hollywood boy. In the summer of '76 during Gay Pride, I met this guy from San Francisco. We spent several days together and I quickly knew I was in love. I was young, what did I know ! Anyway we wrote to each other for about a year. This was before CELL phones and texting ! I found out later on that he met someone there in San Francisco and fell in love. I was happy for him, because he was one of the sweetest guys I've ever met. I since then found out his lover had been diagnosed with aids. My friend also contracted aids and passed away January 22, 1990, seven weeks after his partner did. He tried desperately to help his partner and himself by moving to Palm Springs hoping the different surroundings would extend their lives. He was 38 when he died. He is sorely missed and was greatly loved. Even by someone like me that he had only known him for 4 days that one Summer in 1976.

OMG!!! You can see the difference. In 1978, they looked so jubilant and free. Here they look sadder and some even look like they are crying. Thank you for sharing this.

Por que você acha que eles já estão mortos . Ate hoje a AIDS matou um pouco mais de 700 mil americanos , parece muito , mas é muito pouco comparado a outros países no continente africano . Então nem todos aqueles do vídeo estavam contaminados .

The Eagle crowd! Resilient and strong. By that time, the death toll had impacted all in the community. These are the survivors of the "first wave". I bet many managed to remain healthy. I am one of the Lucky ones.

Thank you for these videos. I grew up in the South Bay but at age 16, 1986, I had a car and spent the next few years in SF making friends and seeing all of these faces. I appreciated those who paved the way for a gay punk kid like me to be as open as I wanted to be. Our history is so amazing and vibrant.

So tragic and so Sad. My dad's uncle Bernard Nova died of Aids in San Francisco 1988, the story is tragic because he got Aids through a couple nights fling he met on Poke Street, after their 2 nights the guy tells my beautiful great uncle Benard Nova that he has past on his Aids to him because he has Aids, my great uncle never even found out his killer's name _ and my great uncle Sadly and tragically died of full blown Aids in 1988 at San Francisco General Hospital 7th floor Aids ward. 💔 who knows how many other beautiful people this evil guy killed along with my great uncle Benard Nova. 🥀RIP great, Uncle Bernard Nova 🕊

Hi. I am not Drama Dad. But I am someone who was present in this video, and have many, many friends in this video as well as many others on this YT Channel. I wanted to reply to your comment to give you some clarity, which I think is important, and perhaps was not addressed when this video was put up here: Not everyone in this video is dead. - Not everyone that is paused on in this video is dead. I know this because I see many of them regularly to this day. - I think the pausing is a style feature, randomly used. - And I think that the term "Ghosts" has to do with many things; First, yes, that many of these folks are no longer with us. And second, that these images and the scenes of the way that SF SOMA life used to be like are indeed scenes of the past. And thus, the times themselves are the "Ghosts." - Just my two cents. I have so many friends in this video who are on my list of those no longer with us. But I felt compelled to address the fact that not all of them are gone. Many are still thriving in their older age. - Peace

There’s a theory printed in Rolling Stones Magazine, that the virus was accidentally mixed with a Simians infected liver samples. From which, the West was conducting Polio Vaccines testing in Africa. Fact. Came too quick and too suddenly.

Nice video, but depressing in nature. My question is how many of these men are still with us now? Probably very very few if any. That is the tragic part.

@@thatsMYbeefDo you experience survivors guilt though? Looking in from the outside, the pain in watching one friend after another die would cause long-lasting emotional damage. Was there ever a time when you “wanted” to cross over after experiencing so much loss?

Naquele tempo parece que os homens americanos eram mais bonitos , talvez por causa de uma alimentação mais saudável que a cada geração ficava mais industrial e menos nutritiva .
