Ok, minor correction (cause they literally say it in the game), the souls gathered by the katashiro aren't being sent to the "afterlife" by the pay phones. They're being sent to Ed, who according to KK, has a way of returning them to Human form.

A game I HIGHLY recommend you should check out is - Three Random Archives. You play three short minigames all within one singular game. I absolutely love the ending because of its bittersweet ending. Everyone's spirit peacefully passes on and Akito is in the exact same situation that he started in. Even though it's not the outcome that Akito and KK would wish for, they still achieved what they fought for. To accept people passing on when the time comes.

The Japanese character motivation trope of fighting for your loved one(s) always starts off sympathetic/endearing and then turns idiotic near the climax. "Yo bro, I don't think my sister wants me to help her. Maybe we should let the world turn into a demon-infested hellscape after all"

To be fair we get glimpses throughout the game that Akito has a lot of shit he's dealing with in regards to his sister especially after their parents already died. He was likely already struggling and blaming himself for what happened to her. KK and the fighting were helping keep him distracted but the closer he got to Mari the harder it was to distract himself and Hanya was able to pick up on his insecurities (likely due to their similar circumstances) and crack him for a moment, and just a moment was all he needed.

One minor thing (potentially). In the voice log files from 'a certain scientist', it's stated he's recording the logs using an application made by his colleague. Since the only other character we know who dictates everything to tape is Ed, I assume he's talking about him. Which would mean the spirit hunting team and Hannya were former colleagues, and the man in the photo with his face scratched out is Hannya, not KK.
@gagaplex
@gagaplex 2 жыл бұрын
I was wondering why KK's face would be scratched out. In fact, when I first saw that picture, I thought the guy with the scratched out face was Hannya, while the others would be his three assassins. Also, we never hear much about Dale (even less than Ed, I think), interestingly enough.

23:26 I am still salty that after you do 3 different fetch quests to fix up Rinko's Bike. You don't even get the feeling of mowing down Stray Rainwalkers with The Bike before it being destroyed in a Cutscene. Like at least, make us drive into The Fog ourselves. That would be infinitely more enjoyable than watching it get destroyed in a Cutscene.

I'm pretty sure that not showing his face was intentional for that very reason. Hannya may have originally done it to be reunited with his wife, but by the time of the game he's really doing everything in an attempt to deny his existence as a human. He has effectively "become the mask" in doing so.

I just completed this game tonight after 50 hours, first playthrough. I would say the lore and the feeling of loneliness is perfectly captured in this game. I completed all side missions, got all Tanuki, and all relics except for 3 that were underground somewhere, and saved 160,000 of the 240,000 souls and I had to stop there. I think the game fell short for me sadly. Especially Chapters 5 through 6. I had spent all these hours trying to upgrade skills I never needed. I love Japanese culture and was hoping for a similar Fatal Frame vibe which is kind of here, but also I think things felt extremely rushed near the end. Honestly I love the monster designs and the grittiness of the environment, but the story wasn't as fleshed out as I had hoped. But overall I feel like the main point and motivator is just to collect things that in the end are not that rewarding.

Wait, let me get this straight. A spirit possessed a spirit? WHAT This game is so stupidly animeish yet somehow I unequivocally both love it and hate it.

Not possessing, controlling Semantics

@@rougestarlight4308 semantics would be a valid counterargument if it was my interpretation of the events. SHB clearly said Eirika was possessing rinko. So , you can kindly stop with your pretentious apologist reaction to inconsistent writing.

I wonder how Erika came to work with the group against her father. Neither the game nor the prelude seem to really get into this. I suppose she knew what her father was up to with regards to her dead mother and disagreed with it?
