For me as a kid I was just always on edge about a raptor spawning behind me and eating me alive. You get like 3 seconds of terrifying stomping sounds before you're instantly pinned to the ground. If I didn't see it first, I was a goner.

tldr: Ghoul is Herobrine but in Carnivores I feel that one of the reasons why this tale is so popular (I think that's the right word?) is because of how limited accessible and reliable online information about the Carnivores games is (sort of like how the lack of online information of Minecraft lead to the Herobrine creepypasta being widespread popular). In a way I love-hate this tale because its making me experience the same tought processes I felt back then playing Minecraft a long time ago.

they couldn’t just hard code into the files you can’t have something in a game and not have it in the game. you have to have a model for it to appear in if it didn’t have a model it would just be a hit box that wandered around invisibly. Also The idea that they had with actually programmed the new creature into the game to get that photo just doesn’t add up because It wouldn’t be hard for a experienced editor to use a transparent dark brush to paint on some shadows and warp and distort the proportions of a picture of a yet and change all the colors in different places and add like Mohawksin new teeth and stuff. Proof would be the fact that poharex made a anniversary photo that just took pictures of the Carnivores models and stuck them into a picture of the map in game. And for the proper old monitor look he could’ve just put Photo shopped picture on a old computer and then take the photo.

This is definitely interesting, but I'm leaning towards it being a mod. People have been able to create their own custom creatures and animations for sometime now, plus the fact that the only other person of note who backed him up was a member of the community known for working on mods seems a bit too coincidental. I'd like to believe it though.

Yeah I was thinking that to there are a decent amount of flaws in some of the pictures and evidence that where shown like the one where it shows the ghouls head it really just looks like a Brachiosaursus bending down to drink and the picture shown where the ghoul attacks the hunter the model kinda doesn't match up right to the previous picture I mentioned but then again they where low quality I for one believe it's fake but I just found out about this so I can't really make a decision yet so I'll be making my own investigation and see what I can find. (Sorry for the bad spelling and grammar)

People who say that the game crashing right as the player died from the ghoul is suspicious, hear me out. If the ghoul wasn’t meant to really be left in the game, and it’s rarity is possibly due to the glitchiness of it, it actually would make sense for the game to crash upon being killed by this entity, as the game could possibly be trying to load an animation or event that isn’t there. Since there is nothing there for the game to use, the game possibly could crash due to it. If it is hard coded into the game and everything else isn’t, then it actually makes a lot of sense as to why a crash would occur.

A good example from around the same time period is Super Smash Bros. Melee in 2001. Exploiting the Master Hand glitch to have Player 3 control Master Hand in any match and finishing the match with Master Hand as the victor will cause the game to crash because the game enters panic mode due to not having assets for Master Hand's nonexistent victory screen, including animation and a proper victory song. Especially in the late '90s and early '00s, this was a very common pattern found in games. I honestly find that part rather believable.

I can respald that, it happened with me when i download the Giga MEE version, I installed incorrectly and the Giganotosaurus when catch me, the game crash, maybe was the lack of death animations from the hunter or from the Giga.

I love carnivores horror stuff. There’s something about the game being so obviously fake, a video game, that allows me to be fully focused and immersed into it- so when something happens that’s meant to frighten or bother me, it does, and when something is there that really shouldn’t be, it sends shivers up my spine. Great job Tatem, this game pours more fear into me than modern horror.

I have the idea that maybe the Ghoul was meant to be a hostile ambient creature for some sort of landmark or lore reason, but the devs drifted away from the idea for one reason or another. Man, I loved the thought that there were secrets in Carnivores as a kid. At one point, my cousin convinced me that if you shot the skull panel on Shmu Hadron's pyramid, it would open and a T. rex would come out.

Something I just realized when reading the dinopedia on the mobile game, reading on Delphaeus Hills: it talks about the archaeology bunker “whose walls and bunkers have been breached by a creature of tremendous strength”. Unlike Fort Ciskin, which mentions the walls falling to specifically “the fury of a T. Rex”, whatever did the damage to the barriers in Dephaeus Hills wasn’t disclosed. I almost feel like it would be. Vengar Fjords, Manya Jungle, and Ravaren’s Bridge all mention ‘dinosaurs’ explicitly with their descriptions, with Nibelungan Paradise mentioning ‘predators’, but Delphaeus Hills just mentions ‘a creature of tremendous strength’. Why not just say ‘a dinosaur of tremendous strength’? It’s probably talking about the Ceratosaurus or something but this descriptor for the first map just strikes me as odd, especially since the Ghoul is said to be exclusive to Delphaeus Hills. And one of the first supposed sightings was near the archaeological site, interestingly enough. Do with that what you will, I suppose. It could be innocuous, but it made me look twice after I read it after hearing about the Ghoul. Even if it is all fake, its a fun little detail.

I have zero evidence, but me and my younger brother saw this creature in the early 2000's when we were around 8-10 years old (I think I was around 10 at the time, and my brother's a little over a year younger than me). The first time, I was confused about why there was a moving green thing in the background that didn't quite look like any of the dinosaurs available to hunt, but otherwise didn't think much of it. My younger brother mentioned seeing something that looked like a green yeti, and I thought he was making it up. He urged me to keep playing around a more mountainous area of the map, which I did. Then I saw some green movement, and decided to shoot at it. Imagine how freaked out I was when it _ran around the freaking bottom of the mountain base_ then fled out of sight. It was freaky as hell! I'd honestly thought that maybe my brother and I had inadvertently invented some make-believe lore of the game (we had some pretty vivid imaginations and would frequently invent scenes in movies and shows that clearly couldn't exist), but now I'm wondering if there was actually something there that we were lucky enough to see a rare occurrence with our own eyes.

I've never met another human that's ever played carnivores. Last time I played was probably 15+ years ago and the feeling I got seeing gameplay again is insane. I was always so creeped out by that one temple surrounded by lava in the first game. My cousin showed me you could jump the gap and it blew my mind.

Wow, amazing video! Obviously if this wasn’t the creepy-pasta of the community then more people would have reported, however I got a story of my own. I played Carnivores 2 original on a CD, I was with my brother and played on the first map at night time. Spawned at the upper right side of the map hunting T-rex, started going to the forest inside the map when I spotted what seemed to be an allosaurus. As I got closer I realized something was wrong, the creature was “thicker”, as it got alerted by my presence I started pumping it full of led, but the monster would simply not go down, as I was killed I got greeted with the classic Spino/velociraptor/allosaurus death animation with a new sfx. My brother and I couldn’t believe what we just witnessed and we decided to call it “baby T-rex” duo to the shape of the body being very similar to that of the Rex. As I got older since this happened during the early 2000’s I was surprised by how no one on the internet has mentioned such an encounter, however I know what I saw and instead of trying to take a horror approach like this video I rationalize it. This dinosaur might have a skin, but do to me finding it at night time were every dinosaur is green is perfect because the dev who created it might not have had to worry about using detailed colors. Secondly, unlike the Ghoul here, this dinosaur had the same behavior as the other preexisting dinos, so wether it was a glitch on the game or intentional, the work to create this creature would have been minimal, having a similar face to a T-rex, downsizing it and giving it another Dino AI, making this guy a mod would actually be a dream for me (I was a kid during the hunt so I had no external files added to the game, no mods or such). And finally, it not dying seemed fitting to me because because many of this Easter eggs on the games are supposed to be unbeatable, and if it was a glitch maybe it had an absurd HP value. I don’t really mind if you believe it or not, but I would appreciate it if any of you shared a weird encounter on the original version of the game.

for me, growing up i always found Carnivores Dinosaur hunter to be eerie and creepy. not because of the animals or game style but simply because it feels so empty and alone. there’s no music or much of anything. walking through any map you can see the all sorts of man made architectures which have all been abandoned for unknown reasons, which makes thinking about it much more haunting…as if the ghost of the people who made these architectures are watching your every move. as you take in all of what’s left of these architectures you can subtly hear the whistling of the air blowing, occasional noises of animals nearby, and your own footsteps…that’s really it. (i know i’m excluding other sounds in the game such as the man on the radio when you’re collecting your trophy, the gunshot sounds, and the animal groaning in pain. i’m more so referring to when you first start the game and spawn into the map)

I found this video way later and wanted to say that I bug test for a game called Fargone. The developer, Red Dot Games, had a weapon called the Converted Glock he removed from his game and replaced with a different item altogether. It can still be found despite having been removed from the code altogether. I believe this might be happening here as well.

I would have never expected a video game to have it's own Cryptid, and one that manages to have actual evidence. I am intrigued by this despite not really playing Carnivores games, but watching videos about them. The Ghoul definitely looks like an epic creature and I hope someone can actually find more evidence of this in game creature, and hopefully we can get video evidence as well. This animal definitely reminds me of the Hunters from Resident Evil, this is probably why people think it is scary and intimidating. I find it interesting it can be found on the mobile port as well, yet again that's probably due to them just transferring the Delphaeus Hills data from the original copy.

I had a weird experience myself as a kid on the mobile port. But it wasn't a ghoul. Oddly enough, it was a dinosaur. As a kid, I thought it was a Pachycephalosaurus, but then I remembered that it was a bluish coloration and looked more like an Allosaurus by the tail but had a rounded head. Just thought I'd comment that on here, I don't know what dinosaur it was, but I was walking in one of portions of the Delphaeus Hills map where you may first spawn in at and I was walking when I turned around where I saw the dinosaur very silently running away, I followed but it vanished into thin air. May have been a glitch, but that was the last time I ever saw it. It looks like a mix of Pachycephalosaurus and Allosaurus. As I mentioned, it had a round head like a Pachy and the tail like that of an Allosaurus. It didn't make a sound when it ran like other dinos did, and I'm guessing it either despawned or was so fast that I lost it right after going over the hill it ran over. Another experience I had was when I thought I saw an aquatic animal or at least heard something in the water. I believe it was also Delphaeus Hills. Do you know the Crusher Rex skin from JPOG (Jurassic Park Operation Genesis)? It was similar coloration to that, but much more bluish with a tint of grayish on the tail. As I said, it may have been a glitch, but I remember it very well even a decade later.

For things I have found/have experienced.. I was in the hills North to the abandoned facility where most spottings have been and I suddenly had started hearing the T-Rex footsteps. But the thing is that I changed from T-Rex hunting to Chasmosaurus hunting. So if this maybe true, then we may have a possible sound for the Ghoul. Another thing, while in the Swamp part of Delphaeus Hills, the game paused out of nowhere. I didn't receive any calls(it usually pauses the game on my phone then pulls up the caller screen) and my hands where at the bottom to move around and look so maybe this could be linked or a glitch. A thing unrelated is that I found a glitch that happened while still Rex hunting. Three must've spawned at the same place and all collided together. But instead of normally just phasing through on another, they stuck. And when I found them, they all did idol animations at the same time and when I was spotted, they all roared at the same time. But when it came to running, they were out of sync. And when I shot one's eye and was thinking that it would free the other two, they all went down at the same time. So I guess for now all I've got that I have photo evidence of is what I'm gonna call the T-Rex amalgam.

I believe the Ghoul is real, and my theory is that it is a genetically engineered modge-podge of creatures created by dinohunt corp. As a test. So that they could start creating crazy dinosaurs for hunters to take down, bringing in a bio-age of sorts, but they escaped due to their sheer strength and intellect, and now they roam Delphaeus Hills as that was where they where created in very small numbers.

The Ghoul is real as I was able to take a Ghoul down. Personally, I was skeptical about the Ghoul in the first place as to why would Action Forums make a "ghoul" run around but I've become more interested over time so I decided to take down the Ghoul myself. I was like Roland Tembo going to Isla Sorna to bag himself a Buck Tyrannosaurus. It took numerous tries and I would just let my laptop run in the background while I was doing work at home as I been lucky to be an IT worker and I was allowed to work at home. I was only able to get it but I was able to do it by modifying the _RES file to make the rifle to one-shot all animals including the Tyrannosaurus and Brachiosaurus with one shot. Strangely, it took a few shots to take down the Ghoul but it could be possible that the Ghoul had higher HP compared to the T-rex and Brachiosaurus. After killing the Ghoul, the little data you get after getting a kill was normal with the exception of the Ghoul's name as it was just simply blank as we know the real name is not the Ghoul and looks like it may not even have an actual name. The Trophy Ship never came to get the Ghoul but this isn't a strange event as killing dinosaurs in water would cause the Trophy Ship to not collect the animal plus you can leave the game without waiting for the trophy ship to pick up your kill. I tried to get screenshots of the dead Ghoul but the textures kept going black and transparent, an issue with Direct 3D, alongside all the screenshots being the color of the sky of the map; a common issue with newer Windows 10 users playing Carnivores. So naturally, I decided to leave the game and go visit the Trophy Room to see the Ghoul as once you killed an animal, all the data of the animal goes directly to the Trophy Room. But when I clicked on the Trophy icon, the game would crash from loading the Trophy Room as it would say there was an error with the file. This isn't a strange thing as if you transport a saved file from one Carnivores game or mod to another, it will have issues loading the trophy items as the creature names and files aren't the same as the names in the _RES file. I tried numerous times but there was no success. I've believed the Ghoul's purpose would have been a "boss" for the players when they get their first T-rex as a response to players being disappointed with the T-rex in the original Carnivores. I like to think it was a way to challenge the players to take down a very tough creature and would be a way to spread the word of the game more as players could tell their friends about hunting a challenging creature. And this isn't the first time we had this as the Poacher in Carnivores: Ice Age and knowing the devs of Action Forms, they aren't the best at cleaning up unused files from the finished products. Once again, I'm very excited that people are talking about the Ghoul and I'm truly sorry for not having evidence of killing the Ghoul. I do hope someday that someone would shoot the Ghoul and capture the footage of the hunt.

I highly doubt this thing is even real, the guy who posted those images said that "he isn't a modder" but to me adding things to old games is rather easy, he could have created a mod that adds the creature to the game and took a picture of it from his supposed "encounter" just seems like another generic creepypasta to me.

I personally believe the aquatic ghoul theory is very much possible still. I’m not an expert on the map but I believe it spawns near sources of water from the images that we have seen so far. The bunker has water and I believe the image of it charging has a nearby water source. Unfortunately I do not know if I can encounter the beast myself considering I have fixes installed which could ruin my chances of ever seeing it

@@theyfwjae21probably not however in my years of playing the very old version of mobile with the orange troodons and stuff I was killed by what I thought was a Rex but I never selected a Rex for that hunt. Maybe it was a glitched rex or maybe 7 year old me found a ghoul but if I did I haven’t seen anything like it since.

Aw man... I kinda got my hopes up when I saw the title. I wish this was a real thing, but hey, it was still a pretty enjoyable ARG. However, it became pretty obvious it was bs around the 4:03 mark. If you make more stuff like this in the future, I'd recommend watching Sagan Hawkes Dinosaur Game lost media video, if this video took a few notes from that, it would be a stellar portrayal of the Ghoul concept. I did end up feeling the need to watch it at like 1.5x speed, just to make the pacing a bit more bearable. Seriously, you talked incredibly slow, lol Keep up the good work though!

One time I was just exploring the cave in the Manya Jungle mobile port, when I found a weird room with egg looking things in it. I believe that the Delphaus Ghoul swam to Delphaus Island. And judging by how there are a few that seem to have opened, there may be a ghoul for each island, since the amount opened corresponds with the amount of islands.

I don't know of this has anything to do with the ghoul but some weird shit happened to me on Delphaeus Hills (mobile version) I had unlocked every gun and dinosaur but i was still scared to loose money so what i would do is I'd only choose the shotgun and the pistol and grind money by shooting rexes in the eye I was doing the same thing over and over by the swamp where i would get on the hills and shoot rexes from up there and restart if i didn't spawn near the swamp or if there were no rexes nearby But one day after killing like 1 rex there i checked the map to see that there were no more rexes near me in a reasonable distance but then i heard large footsteps approaching and was like "what the fuck another rex?" So i checked the map again But to my surprise there was no rex near me so i thought it was a natural spawn spino and tried to abandon hunt before it got me. but when i was about to click the leave button my guy straight up died and my game just crashed You know when you die in that game it shows your character get killed by the dinosaur? Yeah it was exactly the same thing but this time there was no dinosaur it was my hunter just standing still and the same death sound playing over and over again and then my game crashed When i tried to re open the game it didn't work the first time but it worked the second time but all my unlocked dinos guns maps etc was all gone so i uninstalled the game and never installed it back (this happened in 2019 if i remember correctly)

My theory: the Ghoul was a last-moment addition to the original game that, even though the devs wanted to get rid off it, either didn't have time or hard-coded the creature _somewhere_ before release. That's why the creature was just found today, why it appears rarely, and why it crashes the game when it kills a player.

Sorry guys but this can't be true, maybe if you said the first game but the second game it's impossible, because as a teen I was able to get inside the game files, I looked through absolutely everything, even copied some of the dinosaur calls to my media player to make my own little slideshow movies. I could tweak the values of anything in the game, could make the pistol a one shot kill while also making it silent, also could do he same to a dinos scent smell and sight, and funny enough the green bars would represent it even if it was a ridiculously large number, the pistol power bar was all the way to the end of the monitor screen lol. I could also change the size of dinosaurs, making spino jurassic park sized, and even made allosaurus so big the game would often crash if too many entered the field of view, Godzilla sized allosaurs. I never found any model or values for a goul

@AngryBird___ this was back when computers had gateway monitors and a giant tower you could take one sidewall apart and stash pot in lol, I don't remember when I had a computer last, but I do remember it being something like an acer and said carnivores 2 was too old to read let alone the original game so I don't know if I even had the disc and bought a new computer that the game would even download. I did the same on sportsman's paradise 2, actually got DEAP at school from using the schools flash drive to upload porn and then take home to my noninternet computer and was able to make the clouds in sportsman's paradise a bunch of naked chick's fingering themselves, it was setup the same way carnivores 2 was more or less, it was just a bunch of files to scroll through till you found templates, then either the file name or the colors in the template would show you what you where looking at because the templates for whatever reason don't look like whatever they cover, there like digital blankets that wrap around shapes

@AngryBird___ I don't know how old you are but I also remember the texts, if you are old enough to remember the original windows notepad, that's what would pull up when you clicked on some of these game files. And there would be SO much text, mostly gibberish to a young guy, but I remember seeing gun values scent values and all of that, I wasn't smart enough to know to save a copy of the original data before editing so I kinda eventually ruined the game on that computer. But I vividly remember crashing the game because I made the spinos so godamn big, id have to go back to the files and make them smaller. I fixed the pistol bullshit as well. One shot stop.

A think that the ghouls are just Dino Hunt corp Zombies they created as another failed experiment. The Outpost was the lab they were made in and when they tried to make mutant dinos was met with these monstrosities. They ravaged the outpost and left it in ruins. One Ghoul was a Yeti fused with Rex DNA. Thats my theory tho. Edit: Looks like I'm gonna write the ghoul in my Carnivores Novel

Regarding the Yeti reskin, Skyrim has mods that can convert the game to be Soul-like and Fallout 4 has mods that can change it into a Mil-Sim shooter. Hell, there's mod campaigns that dwarves any dlc. So i believe the ghoul is a mod. Unless someone Livestream it or crack open the game files.
