GI Joe Classified Series Wish list: What 1988 Joe or Cobra do you want to see next?

88 was when I was aging out of the line and I was not really liking a lot of the designs for the new figures. BUT, I loved Storm Shadow v2. He’s probably my favorite figure of the entire line. I really liked Shockwave but was a little disappointed with the classified version. The legs suck and the riot shield handle is wrong. But I’m hoping the night force version is better. With that, I would love to see the Hydro Viper sooner rather than later. Loved that figure. And I absolutely must have Musk Rat. Always liked his look. Lastly, I never had Hit n Run, but I can see him making a good classified figure. I’m really not interested in any of the others.

Yeah, I can say Hit N Run was the best out of these, IMO. I had him and man, I had alot of fun with all the accessories. Repeater was cool also with the Aliens' hip machine gun, I can see them reusing the Ferret cannon for his machine gun. And I hope if they make IG Destro, his head would be vac metal.

I agree with your picks. Hardball and Blizzard would be my top 2 joes. (Budo and Hit &Run closely behind). For Cobra, I will be disappointed if they don’t do Voltar and Destro with the Despoiler since they have an Iron Grenadier theme going this year. I think the Hydra Viper should be doable with the torpedo/eel mold in place.

anyone who loves the meandog is cool in my book. i absolutely love it and would welcome it as a haslab. also i want the rest of the main line figs from this year in classified. hardball would be an easy repaint.

Budo, Muskrat and Repeater were great additions to the joe line. Joe was losing its luster as a toy line around this time. Classifieds is so much fun I think they could sprinkle in some of the later line wacky stuff and sell them. Cesspool if done correctly could be really cool.

I'm pretty sure the G.l. Joe HasLab was originally slated to launch today, but when Star Wars missed the May 4th deadline, the HasLab schedule changed and Joe got bumped back to July. That's why there's this weird gap at the end of this month.

88 I was big into Tiger Force and Iron Grenadiers and used the Rolling Thunder as the TF mobile headquarters. I would have loved more space stuff, I liked the comic-based space stuff, I wanted more, but not in a silly way. I don't want these in retro, there should be no problem just giving a good 80s inspired mold and deco. I don't need something in a horrible deco and one in a proper cardback deco. Just release a proper deco to start with. The Warthog could easily be $150 with Sarge and fit 7. The question is, can they reuse the treads for say, an imp, a maggot, a bridge layer, an Armadillo? What else could they source off a Warthog, hatches/partial paneling? I love the Warthog but I would probably love to have 12 other smaller vehicles that have variants than something larger, and I think this would be a complete waste of a Haslab. As far as 88 vehicles, gimme a Water Moccasin with a Lamprey driver/gunner, that's the Tiger Shark, and of course Snow Cat, Tiger Cat, even the Basilisk, maybe the HAVOC in NF colors.

88 wasn't the best year for the figures. But, for me I would like to see the Astro-Viper or the Hydro-Viper as a Classified figure. As for the Joe's Muskrat and Hit & Run would complete my collection

On the Cobra side I would vote for Astro-Viper. Not because he’s my favorite, but because we already have frogman representation with the Eels and HasMat types with the Mole Rats. As awesome as Hydro- and Toxo-Viper are, they’re redundant for now, whereas Astro-Viper opens up a new environment for them to play in. For the Joes… I think I agree that Hardball would be great, but I also really like Muskrat.

Charbroil, Toxo Viper, Muskrat and Hydro Viper. Didn't love all the designs as a kid, same way now.. However the Iron Grenadier looks cool, so I will get that one.

LOL at "Lyle." I need to make my first name font bigger! That's interesting you started in 88. Did you stick with it through to the end from getting into the line on the back end? Still no file card. The bios are on Pulse, but in most cases are directly using the text from the old file cards.

I was more of Comic Fan even back then really depised after each year characters disappear with no mention on your list Astro Viper Dont see happening anytime soon to many other enviroments to bulk up before get to space Blizard def see happening to get a idea on style just look at the FSS Club figure design Budo see Happening they like to have a new Martial Art Character every wave or 2 Charboil will eventually happen but I heard Blowtorch was a name only reveal so know hes coming Hardball is Def coming but I am sure will see Maruader repaint 1st though since they are going to be hitting those repaints on others hard will still have Sgt Slaughter rights Hit and Run def got alpine coming can reuse his gear and already have ripcord with haslab so a easy one to knock out plus Hasbro has been knocking out the Attack on Cobra Island 7 pack from 2008-2009 hydoviper would love but needs to be a 3 Pack with the Eels from this time frame would be a nice con or pulse exclussive Lightfoot dont see dot even think was done in FSS era Muskrat is Def coming out Repeater can see can reuse alot from leatherneck and other figs to batch together Spearhead way to many Animal characters to get to before this will even be thought of Toxo Viper needs to be sold on a 3 Pack with Cesspool and be a exclussive release eventually Destro with Dispoler will happen seeing as small vechile and its s a way to make sure another destro doesnt sit tie it to a vechile Voltar see happenig since Skybound run looking to hit heavy on destro Darklon side of cobra

'87 was my last year with the Joe line, thanks Cobra-La! They've all got potential with some extra detail for Classified. I'll say Hardball but in military gear not baseball gear, and a 40 mike mike launcher would be awesome.

I have never seen these action figures before and probrably why i am not excited about this line of Joes. Quick questions for all the gi joe fans, at what age did you give up playing with the action figures. I think i was about 11 years old the last time i played with them as a little boy. Now i "collect" the GI Joe classified series.

There are a few that I’d consider but I was really checked out of GI Joe at this time. I think they’re playing it right, I think they’ll wait on some older guys and flood the brightly colored guys in hopes that it could catch some people waiting for older Joes

I would add Darklon to the list with his evader Question would you want the Despoiler to have to ability to attach to something like a demon maybe or would you be ok if they didn't make it attached to anything because the Despoiler and demon go together in my opinion

I would love some Hydro-Vipers! I love the Cobra Eels and Torpedo, so some mutated Cobra divers to add to my display would be a welcome addition. The Warthog vehicle is dope, but it does look like it would have to be pretty big for the classified line. I think they could pull it off but might have to be a Haslab to do it justice. I would personally like to see them do a classified SHARC vehicle with a Deep Six figure. I think we could get that at around the same price point as a VAMP and it would be awesome. Great video Jeff. My knowledge of the Joe's past the Animated movie is very limited, so I like to get these deep dives (pun intended) from you on the figures from later in their run.

I think I started phasing out gi joe in 88. It got too repetitive for me. But still one of my favorite lines. I went to a toy store and saw the 25th anniversary joes and wanted to get back into that line. I sold them way back, because I needed the money. But I saw all my favorite cobra figures, but 40 each hits hard

Night viper is an absolute must! I'm surprised they've chosen some of the vipers they have over him. I'd like some bf2000 , deejay, avalanche and i want to see what they can do with sci-fi and airtight and fast draw.

@LylesFigureFiles That's the rub when looking for new designs. It has to be GIJe appropriate, so possibly mercenary characters that feel more rough and irregular. I do customs, but they don't always fit into the GIJoe universe. Some are a bit more horror, which is probably why I loved the Mole Rat. It's mainly that I think their design team is good and deserves what the original designers had, some creative freedom. Something like 1 or 2 let's call them Energon character designs a year. I can go on about the drive of nostalgia and the desire for new innovations a lot. It's something I think about and gave me a push into customizing

Here in New Zealand, we didn't get ARAH until 1987, so the 86 and 87 waves were our formative characters, and the 88 wave was our first new range of figures to get excited about. I had Shockwave, Charbroil, Toxo-viper and Voltar. A lot of old school Joe fans gripe about the more colourful figures, but they are a lot more interesting than the dull-ass "green thirteen".

The 86 and 87 characters were a good batch to start with. How long did you stay into it since you started long after the Original 13?

@@LylesFigureFiles Between the three of us, my brothers and I bought nearly every figure in the '86 and '87 waves, and a good chunk of the following waves up until 1990. I still bought a few each year up until around 1992. My last figures were Wild Bill, Slice, and Destro. There were still several good figures in those years, but in '93 and '94 they just lost the plot. For some reason, older vehicles were still available to us in NZ, so even though we had none of the 82-85 figures, we had some of the older vehicles such as the Rattler, APC, Ferret, Armadillo, AWE Striker, Snowcat, Fang, Skyhawk VTOL.. Those last two might have been some sort of promotion or rerelease, because we got three of each all at one time. The vehicles also got more and more wacky, so we didn't get any after '87. My last were the Coastal Defender and Maggot. The Sunbow cartoon didn't get much play on TV, compared to Transformers, so I wasn't familiar with the classic characters, except for appearances in trading cards or comics.
