I went to San Diego Comic Con on Thursday and luckily right after the GI Joe panel upstairs I was able to walk right into the sales line that only had 5 people in it because everyone was around the Rattler display reveal and I got mine for $39.99 without even having to stand in line or win the exclusives portal guarantee.

Exactly. Just because this version didnt appear in "The Comic", you know how many millions of kids saw this movie? The "Fred" version of Cobra Commander maybe. The Old Snake Version would have been fine. The "Viper" I come to wash your windows, The Cobra la Citizen Cobra commander with the blue skin, with one head with two eyes adn one head with multiple eyes. Any of those would have been fine. If they do Golobulus like this next year, they that means they like the confusion. They like making fans clamor for a figure so they can get the hype to say " Our Con releases are the most sought after figures on the market". They also were terrible about giving people information. Everyone was like" well they did it this way last year" . Great way to run a business.

I think the biggest issue was how they rolled it out. Setting a limit of 5 per household, it sold out instantly, a lot of pulse premium members couldn't even get it. Then they botched the pre-order window the next day by opening it early briefly, only to have it sell out again in mere minutes when it officially opened, and this was after posting an early time then changing the time lol. Reminded me of how some sports teams end up committing multiple errors or turnovers based off a bad initial play, and it's like watching a house of cards fall down. I don't know that they could have done a worse job trying to get these in the hands of classified fans. Obviously they have money either way so they don't much care who buys it, I just feel like it could have been easily avoided by setting a limit of 1 to 2 from the outset. Anyways, great review!

I biggest issue is that an exclusive shouldn’t have a mainline number. People who collect them all and can’t get to SDCC have to go secondary market.

You can either spend the $50 for pulse and not even be guaranteed one or spend that $50 towards one on eBay and actually get one. They are up there for $90, so might as well.

Thinking out loud: What if for the initial run at SDCC, for those who get it in person, it comes with a stamp that says sdcc exclusive or something similar. A variant figure if you will. Then after mass produce it with the original numbering. Might be dumb just a random idea I had.

@@ryantorney5581 One is all any collector actually "needs". I suppose 2; one open one carded is appropriate but 5 is absolutely obscene. The numbering system is a joke because of the 4 different mainline packaging styles (not including Retro and Exclusive i.e. fancy). The QR codes to Hasbro's asshole further show the completionists out there get a slap to the face with basically every wave. They drop the ball on army building all the time as well. Sorry for the negativity!

Totally agree.. Hasbro could go limit 2 for a week and then go limit 5. He’s a neat figure, but I don’t have an interest either. I’d rather have new/different figures vs 100 variants. I don’t even mind some sub-teams, but that is more of a nostalgia thing for me.

Off-topic, but if you want to have Cable mixed with the Classified Joes, you should go with the Josh Brolin movie version they released a few years back. The movie Legends figures fit perfectly with the Classifieds, while the comic versions look like cartoons besides them I think.

I'm very fortunate that I have a hyper collector bro who hounds the shops. He got me 2 at cost., ( I collect loose & MSIB on certain things) I don't have mine yet & that's OK but to everyone getting ready to pay the aftermarket mark up..... Don't! All of these exclusive figures get a second & sometimes third run at cost. Hell the (awesome) crimson command set has been sitting at 50% off for a while now. You're gonna get a second chance so wait for it. I say this cause they watch the Market & giving into the overpriced mark ups makes them feel justified charging $100 for a figure & a car that's just a figure & a car.

I honestly like this figure, and the Cobra-La stuff is a pretty important bit of what I enjoyed about 80s Joe media…especially Roadblock toting a crazy snake through the snow. I know plenty of people hate the Cobra-La storyline, but I personally do enjoy it. And, this figure is definitely something I want for my collection. Hasbro should have limited this to two per account. And, they probably ought to open preorders again. Fortunately, I was able to get in a preorder on day 2…which is good…because I never pay scalpers. But a lot of people still missed out.

Im glad the cobra-la stuff was wrapped up in the movie, but I love love love the idea of cobra commander being a ancient alien man sent to ally all the evil orginizations of the world to try and take over the world, its very Kane from command and conquer, it adds a bit of mystacism to the character in a universe filled with some pretty crazy characters already!

I admit that the Cobra-La storyline did surprise me when I saw the movie, but I am fine with it and it generated some pretty fond memories. I get where it’s too over-the-top silly for some people, though. If I had read the comics back then, I might have a different opinion of it.

@@frankschuler2867 I guess, how to put this into words correctly, I love the bit of 'other stuff' GI Joe had, but a big part of me still really likes the fact that the rest of the show is still pretty grounded in 'military' and 'realism' (as much realism as laser guns and everyone ejecting can be). Zartan being a mutant (a subltle tiein with the marvel comics), the fact it shares the universe with Transformers, and the other hasbro products at the time, it really is the best. I love that we can get these crazy storys about cobra-la and the decepticons trying to steal the 'power generator 2000' but that it also is mostly a self contained seperate story, best of both worlds honestly. Also glad to see you enjoyed the cobra-la storyline like I did, it was the 80's we had he-man, dinosaucers, Mask, it was a wild ride, and now that I look back, Cobra-La isnt as crazy as I remember it being! xD

I’d love to know how it went down for the MoD Zartan as an exclusive years ago 😆 cause MoD Zartan if you weren’t collecting back then or you missed that train by coming in late into collecting the price for that con exclusive is still steep in fact more steep than Mindbender in most cases. Yes there are two other versions out of Zartan since MoD came out but it def is the most accessories heavy of the three as an exclusive

Great review of a Cobra La fig. 🎉👍🏽 I think on the butterfly joint, the Mafex Psyclops I ordered recently and the Jeans’ I have have really good butterfly joint articulation, as well as Psylocke’s articulation look great with butter fly joint but the cut is really deep into the pecs area as you mentioned with other lines that made really great butterfly articulation in their figs

I know guys who told me they bought 20 or more and they laugh saying Hasbro is giving away free money and they are going to flip it into 5 to 10 or more Rattlers so they can than flip those. What do we expect when Hasbro numbers hard to get exclusives. Many could care less about Retro and I know distributors begging Hasbro to number the card backs so they will sell. You would be surprised at how well loved the Joe or Transformer movies are. Look at how many collectors want Star Wars Christmas Bea Arthur. Too many to count!

Hasbro dropped the ball big time. It doesnt take a genuis to know there would be a lot of demand for this figure. You have to have enough suppply. Its insane to have it sold out in 2 min. Then they dropped the ball again the next day by messing up the release time and then again sold out quickly. A lot of upset fans and now Hasbro has to do the right thing and give people a reasonable opportunity to order it.

If the marvel legends team did this figure it would have been an anniversary released two pack. You would have gotten the Roadblock ( and yes that would be the 5th Roadblock release and fans would buy it) with a blind head and regular head and you would have gotten the third snake form with no arms. Maybe you would have gotten the reptilian hands.

It does show what Hasbro thinks about the fans that have been there since day one or even better 1982 (like i did). This character appeared in maybe 3mins in the original animated film, but it's not a must have. And not worth the scalper price, I am still in on this line but i'm not stressing over it

I was lucky enough to get Cobra Commander "Once a Man" last week at local Toy Show for $65 Sealed and will say that's literally the Best price for the figure, paying anything higher isn't worth it at all, as some of my friends have payed $120 for online. I honestly wish Hasbro would do away with the Online or Comic-Con Exclusives and bring back Joe Proof of Purchase points make that system work so much better. I still feel Hasbro isn't giving us the Best quality for these figures. I honestly stopped hunting for Joes, way too many changes they keep doing to some Great characters draws me off.

It looks like the content creators are creating the hype and the drama. Content creators have replaced commercials. When you got a content creator telling you that you better hurry up and get it and don't sleep on it because it's going to sell out quick.... 😂 It causes a panic. If consumers can’t control their wallet/ FOMO… that’s on them… Just like the temper tantrums adults throw when they don’t get their toy. Ppl are SOOO desperate to get validation that they got 1,5, or 10… and then brag online.. Hasbro just needs to go limit 2 the first week of release and then increase it a week later.

The box is better than the actual figure, imo 🤷‍♂️ I agree tho, it is not an "essential" figure... and this is the ideal type of figure I'd agree should be limited/hard to get, if any have to be. It is a -variant- on a main character. If it was the ONLY version of a fairly primary character (like Chuckles, for example), I could understand the frustration more. But some rabid completist geeks will lose their mind over ANYTHING, which is a big part of what Hasbro banks on with their number system 😂

I m broke as s...t! yeah, but no thanks, the movie was such a let down for me.... a great world domination scheme with the btms whatever machine and spores but this... and the lala land... only Pytona was a great character addition. I think Hasbro did well, not everybody wants this is it cool, creative? yes, but my CC does nt turn into a monster, and Serpentor was just a bad dream. I prefer the 82 - 84 theme, action adventure elite military, give me robots, not monsters. I think Hasbro listened, and tries to cut losses, I d want the price of figs to go down $45 Can at tru is too much, g - stop $37, best price, still out of impulse buying range. with tax, it gets over 40, for just one very plain fig. here, there s no $5 Ollie place, no way can I match a US guy with a comparable finance I d actually have to be much richer to match a US Cobra army. fortunately, I max at 10 because my dios can t take more than 50 [Destro s outpost] so having 2 types on scene kind of works still [troopers - bats] 20, + attackers - civilians - vehicles those failed Disney movies - series - Marvels - sw, they surely suck on joes s profits, too much losses WE pay the price in the end! we have to let know that we re not gonna pay for bad management Hasbro takes risks, and we pay the losses... they have to tighten up the ship, figs here get dusty, people wait for clearances, it means more losses, and stores react to that, they order less, so we find fewer, and sales plummet... I m not going to run around the province to find figs, the gas....$ and no new guys will get into this hell, it has to be cheap and easy, attractive. hey, I really like when you do funny backgrounds with your figs, it s signature and very cool man so now you know... He’s a mostly reuse , lazy money grab of a figure (worst con figure in the line of the 4 so far ) he’s a standard $25 figure for $40 and I’ve seen classified customs that look way better! I’d give him a 5.5 out of 10 🤷🏻 when I heard he was coming I expected a little more …..and I have one so I’ve got the figure in hand not just saying this based on pictures, he should of had more accessories, more details on his paints ….im not getting into every nit pick but this was a lazy effort and kind of just another sign that this the where the line seems to be heading now that it’s so popular 🤷🏻 they aren’t putting in the effort anymore

This was a SDCC exclusive. Hasbro decides to sell some on Pulse and the cry babys loose it. Hasblow should have only sold it at the convention. Some colectors need the drama in their life.
