I've been out of the electronic music scene since around 2010-11. I just recently started listening again (no clubbing or raves/festivals though) and I have the same feeling you do. Even though the digital audio technology has advanced since then, the music doesn't seem to have gotten better. Maybe I'm listening to the wrong new music, or because I'm not at a rave hearing an experienced DJ who has spent thousands of hours searching for and collecting the best tracks, I'm having a hard time finding them by listening to mixes here on KZbin.

Yup, agreed. I make various melodic genres. Recently made an old school progressive house but more in the style of 2009 Deadmau5, but I want to focus on making more of them. Many people are looking for this kinda progressive house, but the mainstream artists won't supply. They only want to focus on what is popular at the moment, not knowing they themselves can bring back this style and make it popular again. And since hundreds of thousands are asking for this genre, whoever supplies it first will become the next big hit and a name on everyone's lips.
