This guy is exaggerates the truth. I was up there the same day as him fishing with Tony Tuna's charter. First off these guys weren't granted access to harvest the one tuna, they bought the tag from the captain. And 2nd the fish did not get shipped off to Japan. It was sent off to Boston. Not that big of a deal just not worth lying about. P.E.I is an impressive fishery though and to all the people bitching about the Blue Fin being endangered, head up there and have a look for yourself. Definitely no shortage of them up in Canada. Population in Canada has actually increased while the population in places such as New England has decreased. Can probably be explained because the majority of them migrate with the herring, but in my opinion, the majority of the migratorial fish ending up changing their migration patterns due to lack of bait in southern areas. Final argument which can top all is that list is exaggerated… The Goliath Grouper is on the endangered species list… Anyone who wants to argue and say that they are endangered, all I can say is go dive near any structure, reef, or wreck in Florida especially the Keys then get back to me.

Outstanding job on the fish. Have to admit - not in a negative fashion but you have to have a set of tires on you to strap yourself to a 700 pound fish, I do not fear many fish - but I think I would only chair fight something like that - but this gentleman is also relatively larger and stronger than I am. To these guys who have something to say about being in shape and fishing - this ain't no Tom Cod on the pier - and I'd bet every penny in my bank that after an hour of pulling on something like this - you'd be on your knees begging for mercy...

+mike byers Liberalism is a mental disorder. It's a mass delusion where one victimizes oneself and others they can identify with. Liberals take no responsibility for themselves or their actions... because they are victims. Liberals are selfish and don't care how their actions affect others. Liberals are cry baby whiners with a vendetta. Liberals are weak; however, instead of blaming themselves, they blame others. Liberals support freedom but only their version of freedom; it's a strange paradox. Liberals are collectivists that jump on the bandwagon, rational thought is thrown out the window. Liberals are insecure. Liberalism is tyranny. Fuck you loser.

I fish but watching this video made me question it. Five people and a boat motor versus a fish? They landed the fish ultimately with a harpoon tagged to a line. I guess my bias is also linked to one of the first fishermen of East Coast catching sword fish that said they harpooned sword fish BEFORE market existed and average weight was 700 pounds (now it is 1/10th that).

Wikipedia says that Atlantic Bluefin tuna are at 20-30% of their unfished biomass (IUCN site seems to agree) hence the need for commercial quotas of a single fish. Believe it or not 20-30% of unfished biomass is not that bad, in some countries this is where fish stocks are managed and because it is hard to manage stocks that roam across jurisdictions. In Aus Commonwealth managed stocks are kept at about 48%, well above the rest of the world. A stock that is fished down will always yield more than one that isn’t because fish have more space, more food, less cannibalism, young fish grow quicker - a paddock of young cows will provide more meat each year than a paddock of old ones. International modern fisheries science and management is doing better and Australia is leading the way. Orange roughy continues to recover; the challenge in Australia will be when does a commercial catch that continues to allow rebuilding begin…
@larrytischler876910 жыл бұрын
SouthEastTrawl The Atlantic bluefins are in two different populations. The eastern one that spawns in the Med. Sea is heavily overfished. European solution is to cut way back on the fishing in the west. They don't want to undo the harm they cause

@tcbetka10 жыл бұрын
***** Exactly right--to keep the population stable, the entire fishery can only support harvest of a limited number of animals...so that's all they allow to be taken. And since there are other boats who want to fish them, the quota is one per boat. We do that in the Northwest Pacific fisheries as well--for salmon and crab, most notably.

setting the drag keeps the line.. most of the time. Enough scrubs back and forth waiting for it to tire can wear out anything. He did not mention the legend of tuna taking off up to 60mph... or what he got paid. Good show anyway. A minimalist story would be incredible. Gas v8 minimum, 20+ foot and with cabin. Very humbling and hard earned. Never seen that on film yet.

I CERTAINLY UNDERSTAND THIS FISH WAS FOR COMMERCIAL PURPOSES AND PEOPLE EARN THEIR LIVING THIS WAY. WHAT I DON'T UNDERSTAND AFTER THIS TUNA PROVIDED THOSE ABOARD AN EPIC BATTLE IS THE FACT THAT IT WAS TOWED STILL ALIVE INTO PORT RATHER THAN GIVEN A QUICK DEATH WHICH IT DESERVED !
@jasonfarris85178 жыл бұрын
so to answer your question. since you seem to be an authority on ethical fishing. the reason they had to tow it in is because the fish was 800 lbs. not exactly an easy task to pull onto the boat. and, even if possible...would have caused a major risk to the men onboard. adding an additional 800lbs to the boat in waters with at least 8' whitecaps(waves). and the reason they didnt kill it while they towed it back was. due to not wanting to destroy the tuna they had to go slow. if they sliced its throat....there would have been massive amounts of blood in the water. being towed back inland. slow. it would have attracted sharks. there would have been nothing left of the tuna if they discovered it. so next time before you put your argument and capital letter aggression out there on a subject you have no clue about....just dont.
@Abegweit1118 жыл бұрын
Thanks for this Mike. I knew why the fish was towed in (sometimes lashed to the side of the boat?) I never knew the reason why it wasn't killed immediately. Your answer makes perfect sense.
