I find 90s video game ads so comforting now. I love them. Like the ads with a bunch of hip hop teenagers running through the sewers so they can plug the cartridge into a system plugged into lord-knows-what and project the game on a giant wall so they can act amazed. I miss those.

My favorite era of game ads is the 2005-2009ish "yo check out how serious and cinematic our game is, you can tell because of the camera work and classical or emo music". It felt like the industry was firing on all cylinders and reaching a new height.

That bit with the M#9 trailer (at least the specific part shown) made me think of the BattleBlock Theater ad for steam, and it was corny as hell they were also being dumb with it intentionally, plus at least it was original then. That bit felt like they were trying to replicate it but completely missed the mark.
