EPIC DEMOLITION FAIL❢ Incident during demolition works: the building should be demolished piece by piece but collapsed. The reason could be not enough structural steel in the concrete as a failure at the erection of the building.

Kartanimal29, WFT. To DDTV, Thank you for this video, not because it was so dramatic, though it WAS! But because I hope it might get into the everyday MO of Site staff when Boss or bricky, never ever stand around a machine or a building which is in the process of getting Demolished, as that could have happened at exactly the same time this went bad, and with the sudden ‘no control’ the pieces weighing several tons and sharp window and steel bounced way out of the envelope that was the building

Nowhere near enough steel. The ends of the broken concrete beams should be bristling with rebar, but I don't see any.

It was maybe the water from rain and or the dust suppression that soaked into the fabric, and maybe there was a few freezing days and thats what made this disaster, but I am no expert so can’t say why but respect the machines and any part demolished or even building waiting to be demolished on any similar site and do not take things for granted. Unless you find out this and the falling concrete and masonry may always be a mystery? Certainly no person to blame though.

It made the entire structure weak. Demolishing the rest of this must have been incredily sketchy and dificult. I work in the industry, and we call that pancaking. When we park bobcats on raised slab, we have to park them on seperate sections of the floor so they dont fall through straight to the basement like this did.

What's too blame is weight of the roof with no support and poor steel reinforcing the machine driver had done nothing wrong and it was just a poorly made concrete slab and age has an affect as we'll

No, the operator wasnt at fault. The demolition engineers and project managers are at fault for planning it this way.

+Anthony Smith True, but add several floors of concrete and steel above and when it collapsed, not even steel could stop it.

Woody615 And therein lies the problem. According to Sir Isaac Newton, the steel SHOULD have stopped it.
@Woody615
@Woody615 8 жыл бұрын
Actually no. Per Sir Isaac Newton, it did exactly what it was supposed to do. The steel can hold up the potential energy per Sir Issac Newton, but once a part starts to collapse, due to being hit by a plane and the fires weakening (not melting) the steel, you add the kinetic energy of the motion, per Sir Issac Newton, to the potential energy of the weight and it now exceeds the holding strength of the steel. Once that the energy exceeds the capacity of the steel, the entire building starts to collapse, and it cascades just like this building did.

+Woody615 It didn't suprise anyone in the crew that it would happen; only the timing. I've watched several of these high-reach demo's. The initial stage is always to "tunnel-out" a channel down the center-line, as was done here, to weaken the structure severely and to create a central collection point for the rubble. It allows the operator to access the whole building from inside to pull it inward (as was underway) away from the abutting streets. I saw one demo that actually had two tunnels because it was L-shaped and too large for one tunnel.

Da haben die aber Glück gehabt das die beiden Hälften stehen geblieben sind. Hätte auch noch schlimmer kommen können wenn eine oder beide Hälften gekippt wären.

What might have helped in addition to the other thing I said, might have been an expert in structural engineering rather than perhaps someone who "Has done this before and I know what I am doing" kind of thing, structural engineers would look really closely at the age and type of the concrete, and where the RSJ (Rolled Steel Joists) were joined as they never run right across this building. The machine Op is a good ten floor high and that fall could have pulled the stick and machine down.

I realise the water vapour/spray is to suppress the dust, I was just putting forward possible ideas of why a good chunk of this building should surprise the machine operator and the other worker and everyone around it.

Wie ist das denn passiert, bzw wodurch?? Zu viel Wasser auf dem Dach gewesen??
@LiebherrR934B
@LiebherrR934B 7 жыл бұрын
