School glue tinted with food dye. Roll it around the inside of the bottle. Turn bottle upside down so it drains. Takes a while to dry but after..looks like stained glass.

Unfortunately, I tried both Elmers glue and food dye as well as mod podge and food dye and tried it on several bottles, and it was very disappointing with how it came out.

Isaac ! Good grief, you did it again !!!! I love these lights and they look so adorable ! I am a 75 + year grandma and I am always looking for new things that I can do for the grandkids to enjoy. I am going to make a couple of these sets this week and put them by the pool area for Christmas. Our pool room is enclosed so weather will not affect them. You make so many cute things and up until now, I have only enjoyed watching the videos but this one has "lit me up" ! If I have the energy I might even try to make those Christmas ball decorations, too. I'll let you know how they turned out. I don't know if I can send photos but if I can, I will. You are so talented and thank you for sharing your crafting ! Grandma from Texas

Awesome ! .. i believe the insulation is essentially like pool noodles, in which case, if you blow a heat gun on the ends for just a second or 2, you can join the ends together without glue

Changed mine some I used pool noodles for the foam covering and solor lights so I didn’t have to plug it in and the paint for sun catchers from Walmart/dollar tree craft section so it’s light enough for color but let’s the sun in to charge the lights so excited how it looks in the yard getting ready for all the decorations and craft ideas

You could try liquid food colouring and mod podge like with the faux coloured glass. Just water it down enough to be able to swirl around the entire inside, let the excess drip out, let dry, and do another coat until you reach the desired opacity.

The trick to painting on plastic is to mix 1:4 ratio of Elmer's Glue (1 part glue / 4 parts paint) in the acrylic paint before you apply it. This makes the paint stick better and last longer. It may tint the color slightly but not enough to diminish the effect.

Bro, you do not know the trouble I went through with the paint. Literally, that was the hardest part of this entire project. I tried so many times to figure out what she used and dozens and dozens of people kept asking for the name of the paint, but we weren’t getting any direct answers. The paint I used is not the paint she used so it’s going to look differently. I so wish I could have figured out what she used but I think it may not be available in the United States.

Hello, I have just made this lights based on your tutorial.. It look great!!! Some tips I learnt while doing so.. I painted the insulation foam with a mixture of acrylic paint and white glue, makes it flexible and black instead of green to match the black bin for the plug and to cover the duck tape connecting the tubes For the lights, i used spray paint, doesn't matter how many times you try it will not look even, so you better get used to the patched look lol I did not need to use any zip tie as I glued everything don with hot glue and duck tape.. I did not need a hot knife, I use a stanley knife to cut the entire bottom off and a hacksaw for the neck all in all I spent about 200 dollars to make it ( I am from Sweden, everything here is more expensive ). Next project, your giant nutcrackers!! Tack!

I feel like a hole saw and a miter saw might have been an easier way to cut the bottles. You could use a vice on the nozzle while cutting the bottom so it doesn't move, and then cut the nozzle off very slowly on the miter saw. This would keep from creating so many fumes as well.

These lights are truly representative of Christmas magic. They light up without even being plugged in...lol. Great work! I especially liked your attention to calling out safety concerns for each step. As far as painting the bottles goes, you might try mixing clear school glue with food coloring and water until you have a thinned out consistently you're happy with. The food coloring will bond to the glue and once the glue dries, you should be left with a translucent pigment. Spraying it your way will be much quicker still, but if you're dead set on the original method, this might work.

Mine keeps flaking off my noodles! I think I’m gonna try coating glue over and spray over it again. Wish me luck! This is taking a lot longer than I thought it would. Kinda Annoying

Would it be possible to use perhaps a varnish with some food colouring and paint that on for the bulbs? Fab video. Will be doing this for Christmas.

For color - use stage gels. They're just flexible plastic sheets that generally come in perfect squares and they can withstand fairly high temperatures (commonly used before theaters switched to LED lights)

Carolina is not the original maker of this project. The real creator should be given credit. She posted it 6 years ago. And her name is Paige hemmis and she was on the home show when she showed it

that's okay I just thought it would be good to know I love watching your videos more than anything. You are so informative and show all the steps and you are so creative. 😊 also in the original video Paige said she used the stained glass spray paint to paint the bottles I'm glad that you mentioned that that didn't work for you. It's good to know because the stained glass paint is apparently pretty expensive. Thank you for your content Isaac! We all appreciate you sharing it with us

@@IsaacAlexanderDIYguess u have to make a whole new video and credit the proper person and use alcohol inks and real coke bottles this time.... they have a pointy shape. Thank you for working out a tutorial! Pole noodles are seamless and Dollartree has green but getting cord inside would not be possible.

@Braedenfish you could split the pool noodles vertically, insert wires, and close with hot glue and a longer term glue to seal the noodles. Hot glue alone won’t stand up to the heat in Texas, especially while storing in summer. I had a wreath I made with Christmas ornaments. The hot glue melted during off season storage, and most of the ornaments fell off.

Nice tutorial, sir. Looking forward to all the XMAS tutorials! Do you run xlights/pixels in your XMAS display? I started a few years ago so it is very basic right now

Alcohol ink would work well and be beautiful. You could even blend colours for an unusual effect.

I adore this idea! Amazing if your doing a shrunken down Nutcracker ballet theme or just an oversized theme. One minor thing that is odd to me but can easily be modified is the lights being on while the huge end is a male plug. Would make more since giving the female plug shown if the lights are on. But that is a minor thing. I'll have to make this sometime. Thanks for the totorial!

I hadn’t thought of that, I think it’s just meant to be more a wow factor but you’re right, i think it should be a female end

Awesome project, congrats. That reminded me of those old TV series or movies about giants that included oversized props. Well, Isaac, seeing you with those huge Christmas lights made you look like you were a living action figure, lol. Well, can you imagine the weird situation if you'd actually be surrounded by giant stuff on a Christmas morning? A giant boy, seeing you, may think you are some kind of toy. So in the blink of an eye, you'd feel a giant boy's hand coiling around you, being lifted and carried around. Being handheld, you'd have to try to convince the boy that you are not a toy. But for him, you'd be the coolest action figure he ever got as a Christmas present lol. Anyway, it's still a great project that looks very amusing to make!

I wouldn't use hot glue hot glue tends to let go after a while. And especially if they're going to be outside in the wind and moving around a lot They're not going to last use e6000 or gorilla glue or something like that
