I love bees, they are our useful pollinators and they help us out so much. So many people think that whenever bees are near them that they want to sting. They don't realize that they sting when they are provoked. If I'm standing in front of the carpenter bees' favorite flowers in the garden, they often come and fly in my face for a few seconds. But then they just buzz away and go to the flowers they were trying to get to. They are very friendly and if you just remain calm instead of yelling and screaming and swatting them, they will go mind their own business. People often don't realize that yelling and screaming and swatting them just makes the bees more provoked and makes them feel more threatened. Screaming and swatting just makes things worse, remaining calm is best. During the early spring we have male carpenter bees which are very territorial and aggressive and will chase anything that flies. Even if you throw a rock into the air they will chase it! But they have no stingers and are totally harmless, and they are just being aggressive because it is their mating season. I love watching the drama of male carpenter bees. Very fun to watch and lasts March through April. They may look dangerous but they are just protecting their territory and looking for a mate.

These creatures are magnificent. I have a garden in the back and they love it. I can pet them only on a flower because they mainly focus on just getting pollen.These insects have a job to do.

Poor bee. Sometimes you'll see a honeybee worker that has come to the end of its natural life span (4 weeks or so). Can't fly, barely crawls. Sometimes I'll let it crawl onto a twig and deposit it into a flower or something so it doesn't get stepped on.

Few years ago there used to be this bumblebee who would basically “protect” our backyard door by flying around it for like 3 hours and we loved that bee, his name was Hubert. One day we found him on our front porch dead. I knew it was Hubert because he had strange markings on his forehead. My cousin found it out because she accidentally stepped on him and got stung. Sad, hope he’s doing well in bug heaven
