*It's a tough job, but our vet staff is up for it* Eye check, ear check, measure the nose... the cubs are measuring up and on track! Quite possibly the cutest checkup ever. The Veterinary Teams swap the cubs with Lun Lun every few hours. Lun Lun nurses and warms one cub while the other rests in an incubator, ensuring both receive an equal share of maternal care without overexerting her. In the wild, giant panda mothers typically care for only one cub when twins are born. Thus, it is normal in the wild for only one of the twins to survive. Giant panda twins have survived in zoos within and outside of China. Usually this is accomplished by rotating the cubs.

Only the giant panda mother takes care of the cub. The father has nothing to do with caring for his offspring and could potentially be aggressive toward his offspring. Adult giant pandas are solitary and only interact with each other during the mating season.
