The Smithsonian National Zoo's three pandas -- Mei Xiang, Tian Tian and Xiao Qi Ji -- were set to be loaded into special crates Wednesday morning for a 19-hour plane ride to Chengdu, China.

I hope they're very cared for on the plane. Flying can't be better than staying here in a panda-habitat where they are calm and don't feel the airline ride ups and down. Fly free, and safe, beautiful pandas. You will all be missed!!

I'm sad to see any animal in a zoo, they need to live freely in their own environment. I hope they make it safely.

@@flyandshy00zoos are not prisons for animals they are breeding facilities to help living animals not go extinct not all zoos are terrible I mean whipsnade zoo I’m uk for example.

I watched the cages as they were on the airport property. It was like watching the funeral procession of a deceased President.

Not EVERY one of them are suited for the wild though. There are some tragic failures in the effort that earns a lot of scrutiny

yes. China owns all giant Pandas in the world and it does not sell them It loans them to other countries and when the lease expires they are returned to China.

china used to gift pandas, but animal protection group against it, so it become "loaned program for research purpose" and i think mexico still have 1 gifted panda alive(2nd generation mexico born panda that belong to mexico).

@@jchen666 and I guess they will eat corn instead of bamboo and have a higher rate of obesity and heart disease, as American pandas do. Oh and a decent percentage will own firearms, because, again, American pandas.
