From my experience harvestign about 100 pea fields in a 5 county area in Southern MN, the best soil grows ragweed.

Thanks for the video! It looks great there. I had giant ragweed 10 feet tall last year. This year not so much being so dry. By October the animals didn’t care for the giant ragweed anymore. It must not be as palatable. My animals also love saplings of box elder trees. At least here, they are worse than autumn olive trees for growing everywhere. I still got some Macho bull semen from last year.

Got plenty of giant ragweed here, and the ironweed is bloom. It's a lovely purple that most farmers hate because their cattle won't touch it. WE know the "trick".

That's really interesting because I uploaded a video a couple of years ago (What sheep like to eat), and in it they were gorging out on Ragweed (not the giant variety) even when there were plenty of other vegetation around. They were nice and fat too, and healthy.

I used to graze corn for the long 212 day feeding season When the droughts started coupled with the crazy increase of inputs I knew I needed to do something else so I went to a fodder system. long story short the corn ground is no longer needed. I haven't gotten to re seeding the old corn ground to grass yet been to busy but what Ive noticed is the time before the grass gets going good you have a akward time in grazing where there's stuff out there to eat just if you start to graze it you seem to put the grass under too much stress. that old corn ground however is the perfect stuff to graze early. weeds are always the first stuff to come up. You keep the cattle out of the yards and on dry ground. And weeds you can never graze hard enough LOL

What's that flower you said so much about? Your voice trailed off the one time it was nearly audible. Something about growing it in gardens in Hawaii. When I have a GF I always take flowers from the pasture to her. They love 'em. edit: Oh, "ruellia" I see. Wiki says: Ruellia is a genus of flowering plants commonly known as ruellias or wild petunias. I've got mint, and some soggy ground, debating whether goats or sheep might fare better in that situation. I know they'd both need some higher ground in their paddocks at all times-and that's no problem.

I was thinking how much the microbes and earthworms and insects must appreciate both the rain and the cattle quickly going thru. We see the green on top but underground a lot is happening, which some areas is really desperate. The cows leaving their patties and urine must be a gold mine. Since it is still so hot, how do Isaac and crew manage in that heat, just a few more weeks? I bet they are looking forward to mornings in the sixties and seventies.

You only need 10” of rain to farm or ranch, if you keep every bit of it. That’s a little bit of an exaggeration, it would be lean times I’ll admit, but one could do it. Their is a fellow in Mexico, Alejandro who does it.

All domesticated livestock animals are descendants of wild animals. The vast majority of domesticated livestock animals still retain the inherited ancient memories of their ancestral wild forebears. These South Poll cattle have the ability to decide for themselves in any season, on any given day within a season, as well as throughout any given day what nutrients, minerals, vitamins, enzymes, and phytonutrients that their body's require, and they instinctively know what plant(s) in their paddock will fulfill those needs. If, as human caretakers of our domesticated animals, we just get out of the way, and act as the best possible stewards of our pasture lands by encouraging the maximum number of grasses, forbs, and trees to populate our fields; then that incredible biodiversity will allow our ruminant animals to stay as healthy as possible without any outside inputs, and with minimal interference from us. Greg, it's always a pleasure to watch your cattle and sheep graze, especially when they are selectively eating plants for health reasons that don't ordinarily occupy any significant portion of their yearly diet. To paraphrase *Yogi Bear,* your cattle and sheep *"Are smarter than the average human!"*
