If I was a kid, I would figure out some way of getting a ride in that! The proportions are perfect for a child size pilot!

Unbelievable!! As a pilot, I cannot see how someone on the ground can fly (and land) an aeroplane as well as that - I could not do as well if I was sat in it. I almost forgot to add: what a magnificent piece of kit!! 😉

Hi - FANTASTIC DISPLAY !!! The actual real life plane was transported in the USA under the belly of the mighty airship Hindenburg where her pilot lt. Alexandru Papană used it on airshows and for a while was sponsored by Shell. If sombody wants to see the actual plane flying please check out the movie The Great Waldo Pepper ( 1975 ) where Waldo idol the german flying ace Ernst Kessler ( Ernst Udet ? ) is using it to display an outside loop - the last great stunt which remained ....anyway after Papană returned to Romania the plane remained in the US being owned by many people and had a distinguished career helping many pilots to achieve top ratings in the aerobatic world. After many years ended up in the movie . At this point the original Bramo ( Argus ? ) engine was long gone being replaced by americans mainly Lycomings or Continentals generally when she acquired her new master. If my sources are right in the movie she is powered by a 260 hp Continental....After the movie was completed the airframe was seen very seldom in the air being at this point hopelessly out performed by much younger designs ....but her luck still holded out. Sombody acquired it and after a short return to the sky she was donated to the AIR & SPACE MUSEUM ( Smithsonian ? ) in Washington DC where after restoration she was - and still is !!!! - put on display in her original YR - PAX paint scheme. .....If sombody could confirm or deny any of this above mentioned- fabulation - about this wonderful aircraft please do so . Any new information is greatly appreciated. Many thanx to the building team for their efforts in recreating this famous aircraft type .... and FOREVER BLUE SKIES Herr Bücker wherever you are.

Scale plane made with magnificent detail very close to the original, it only lacked having carried out a more varied and typical aerobatic flight routine of this aircraft such as the basic Cuban eights; barrel rolls; snap rolls; hammer heads; wing overs, which are required maneuvers in an aerobatic routine and not too aggressive to risk the plane too much. -After all, it was an airplane to do acrobatics and as such it is expected to be seen by the audience and judges of the event.

The plane belonged to the Romanian pilot Alexandru(Alex) Papana.Papană obtained his pilot's license in 1928 while in Romania, and was already setting altitude records in 1931. At the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin, he competed in gliding (which was a demonstration sport), finishing a respectable 12th as the only representative from Romania. This earned him an invitation to an aerobatics competition in Los Angeles. Papană accepted the offer, and he and his plane, a Bücker Bü 133B Jungermeister (one of only two versions of that variant ever produced) with the registration YR-PAX, were flown from Frankfurt, Germany to New York, New York aboard the Hindenburg airship in August 1936. He then flew across the United States from New York to Los Angeles, winning the race between the cities. In Los Angeles, he won the national air races that were held there. In December of that year, Papană finished second with the Jungermeister in a race from Miami, Florida to Havana, Cuba. At an airshow in Cleveland, Ohio the following year, Papană was in a battle with fellow aviator Count Hagenburg that ended up crashing the count's aircraft. Papană offered Hagenburg his aircraft, but the count refused. Papană's aircraft was damaged on the runway at an airport in Chicago, Illinois in 1940. The plane was sold twice before being donated to the Smithsonian Institution in 1973. The aircraft is now located at the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center in Chantilly, Virginia. Papană later tested gliders for Northrop as a test pilot, many of his flights being documented in Flying magazine. He was involved in the trials for the P-61 Black Widow aircraft that would be involved during World War II for the United States Army Air Forces.
