I need to check and see if I can grow some of your plants in Tennessee. Thankyou for the video

Hi Cindi, I have checked the climate in your area and if you can provide the water requirements you can grow pretty much all of the exotic plants we have in our garden. It's only the ones which require freezing temperatures over winter that you'll struggle with. Kind regards Simon

Enjoying your videos, we have tree lillys here,we also have solandra maxima which seems quiet happy.

I am jealous about your Solandra, our winters are too cold to grow it. Kind regards Simon

Yep, over 6' tall. Mine has, as of this year, started spouting new plants from the base. It's time to divide. I have had people tell me that their lilies do not produce flowers so large. I now know it's because my blossoms are from a "tree" lily.

How do you decide what is and what isn't a 'Tree Lily'? Is it simply a lily that is tall? L. lancifolium, the Tiger Lily, can grow to 2 m. Would it be classed as a tree lily?
@walkingtalkinggardeners Жыл бұрын
This is an excellent question. True tree lilies are hybrids of oriental and trumpet lilies but how would you be able to tell that just by looking at a tall specimen as hybrids naturally vary? I think having a genuine tree lily class would be helpful but I imagine that in general most gardeners would call any lily over 5ft a tree lily as this is a simplifies identification. Any known cultivar of a species that is tall wouldn't be a genuine tree lily in my mind as there are other recognisable features such as stem strength and flower characteristics. However, any grouping of tree lilies will be made by clever botanists. I hope this answers at least a part of your question. Kind regards Simon

I'm fascinated by lilies 🤩🌺🌺 And tree lilies are really gorrr-jessss But hey, didn't England go metric almost 60 years ago ❓ Rather much nicer to see the plants from bulb to flower, rather than watching the talented gardener talk .... Thank you

Hi Mishmish, sorry you didn't like my talk. Regarding England going metric you are absolutely right it did being the process in the 1960s but I don't think we committed until 1973 or '72 when we joind the EU. It's was still being taught in my primary school so it kind shows how old I am. Anyway, thanks for watching. Kind regards Simon

Mishmish, till 1971 we had 12 pennies to a shilling and 20 shillings to a pound. A penny was divided into two ha'pennies, and four farthings. Adding up two figures could take a while back then, let alone a column of them, especially as we didn't have calculators. Around that time the poor old Swedes had to change the side of the road they drive on, from our side to the wrong side. If they'd had the foresight to join our British Empire like many other countries did they wouldn't have had to worry.
