The massive size makes the flying speed seem very true to scale. And the flying skill involved in doing aerobatics while keeping an eye on the jets next to yours is something else. What an amazing display.

Totally agree on the skill level. I'm sure I could fly an airplane and do modest aerobatics. I'm sure I could fly an RC aircraft. I _cannot_ imagine flying an RC jet doing formation aero.

Exactly. The "Missile With A Man." The NF-104 almost killed Chuck Yeager and he had to eject. The 104 killed famous test pilot Ivan Kincheloe at Edwards during testing. Everything I have read says this was a very difficult aircraft to fly just as you said.

I can't even imagine how much harder flying RC formation is than IRL. And the F104 is just an all time favorite fighter.

Your right. I fly rc, my brother does and he is a pilot. We tried formation flying in RC and it's very hard. Trying to match speed and turn radius is very hard from the ground perspective. It's fun though!!

@@acb9896 irl referring to actually piloting a jet in the seat. Though this might be "IRL" it is certainly incomparable in terms of risk with flying in the seat...and this formation flying is also in no way comparable to real skilled formation flying of "IRL" seated pilots.

@@TugIronChief Since this was flown and filmed in Germany, It's the LBA (Luftfahrt-Bumdesamt) that makes all the rules and by god are there many rules. As usual we Germans go a bit overboard with all the rules and regulations so there's basically no way you can fly anywhere that hasn't been approved by the LBA before. These planes being 90kg must have a Transponder so that nearby ATCs can see what they're doing. These Pilots must've also completed countless exams and slowly gone up the ladder of weight classes to get to this point. There is no real way a Buffon could pick one of these planes up and smash it into a car or house.

When I was deeply into RC, back in the early 70's (40MHz had only just arrived in Australia) there was absolutely no way that we'd have considered that 1/3 scale turbines were going to be a "thing" in the not too distant future. Amazing. :)

I saw these impressive models years ago at the Jet Scale Model Championship in Herrieden/Germany. I was really impressed and can only say that the video doesn't come close to reality. My work colleague, who was there, was stationed with the Bundeswehr at the location when the original F-104s were repainted and prepared for departure. He's seen the originals many times and was just speechless at the level of detail.

I've seen several videos of this team and these planes and its always amazing, but this was the most flawless one so far. I love that they chose the F-104. Its such a unique plane with those tiny wings.

Great show and awesome jets! I used to do virtual team aerobatics a while back. I've often dreamed of applying it to, then pretty new, 1st person R/C using large scale aircraft (which you've got here👍) and each pilot controlling from their own cockpit using VR. Could lend itself to some really precision flying (?). Has anyone there considered trying "semi-virtual" air demonstrations?... Blue skies, all!

Ich habe am F104 S - TF104G - F104 ASA - F104 ASAM gearbeitet. Sie können sich nicht vorstellen, was für ein Nervenkitzel es ist, sich selbst mit diesen Modellen im Maßstab 1:3 fliegen zu sehen. Du warst fantastisch, ausgezeichnete Fluggenauigkeit. Der Sound war so real, dass ich mich 40 Jahre zurückversetzt fühlte. Glückwunsch an alle 3.
