Absolutely. Similar to how you can disable a phones 'always on' functions by using airplane mode. From what I've heard, you can choose to disable some options or all of it at the press of a button.

Exactly in one release they do mention you need to connect only once to the internet to set up the system. But all you need to do is once.

The engineering cost is the main thing I had been trying to fathom. It is such a huge move for MS to just do a complete u-turn, when they must have already invested so much time and money in making this a workable system. Amazing move. I hope for MS' sake that they have been able to save as many sales as they hope they have by making this move. I for one am still on the XB1 train.

Physical copies of something will still sell. DVDs and CDs can be downloaded, yes, and they sell well, but the physical copies also sell well. What part of that don't you get?

Aside from some Indies which look cool XBone has Halo, Ryse, and Deadrising 3 as true Exclusives to the console. Deadrising has been suggested to may get to the PC sometime after launch. Ryse has specs out for a Pc version but no info on it yet. So if they do go PC XBone is a Halo Machine.

I remember Angry Joe when he stated that changing the online requirement stuff was a simple tweak that could maybe change in the future and they fought him asking if he was one of created the console... A simple answer to this change in policies from MS is "Good but I don't trust them anymore" because like some are stating, MS will probably add this DRM back slowly over time.

There have been a lot of "This will make things cheaper for the consumers" arguments, but no, nothing has. They're businesses. They're not interested in making things cheaper for you, they're interested in making money. The savings being passed on would not affect you, but be used to increase profits on the publisher end. The check-ins were meant to make sure you weren't whoring their games out to other people that haven't paid full price for them.

You are probably right, but the fact is that Sony was the first to even acknowledge this backlash. Their reading of MS and that whole twitter campaign paved the way for Microsoft having to follow suit. Sony could have easily followed Microsoft, meaning now both would be enjoying this (ridiculously forced and restrictive) digital revolution/evolution.

You're mistaken. The digital copy is the only one that would work. After it is installed, the physical disc is rendered meaningless, unless another person bought it at full price. The process would be repeated. There is no "in addition". Only the digital copy is needed, and the physical copy is only the means to get to that. I brought up DVDs and CDs because it's relevant. Gamers want copies they can sell and let their friends borrow. A digital copy doesn't do those things.
