I think the biggest problem with him on the panthers is what you said, he's getting around the corner but pushed to far away. That don't happen with Dex up the middle tho. QBs can't step up with Dex in your face

People compare him to huff but huff shoots the edge ignoring his gap responsibility if you watch which is only ever acceptable on 3 and long plus it may not work against very athletic elite tackles like Andrew Thomas. Burns works the edge yes but if you watch he engages first to maintain his gap responsibilities. There is a reason the jets could only play huff very sparingly.

Too expensive, a total overreach. I'd rather have Hunter or Huff so we keep the 2nd and 5th rnd picks and pay less. Or just draft an edge with the 39th pick. Total overpayment. Huff had comparable stats on limited snaps. This is as bad as the jones deal. 5yr $150 87g + 2nd and 5th rnd picks. For an 9 sack 50 tackle guy. Stupidity.

We over paid for another player with potential, we love to date potential. 8 sacks for $150M, is he Bosa, Hutchinson, Micah, Watts. No he’s not but we made him the second highest paid edge. Could have kept X and got Huff for 30M a year. Let’s see how we feel in a couple years, what do you think Kayvon is going to get when it’s his turn for the bag

Gettleman wanted Burns at pick 17 in 2019 and now we get him. Giants would've used one of those two 2nds they had on a DL anyway. Burns, Thibodeaux, Dexter, and Azeez off the bench.

Getting burns should push the front office to double down on the d line in the draft. Not necessarily with the first pick with the WR/potential QB talent available. But in the 2-5- rounds. Would love to find a diamond in the rough DT/Edge hybrid or a blitzing linebacker. Really beef up this line and make it one of the best units in the league. 13 sacks for Kayvon, 17 for Burns, Azeez getting 8 as a specialist, Dexter continuing to dominate up the middle. Bring back that old school G-Men football.

Burns is a one trick pony. Top tier on the pass rush, but ONLY in an obvious passing down. This move doesn't make much sense to me, as he's really only worth it, when the team is playing with a lead.

I know it seems great on paper, but of the signings today, this is definitely the one Im the most unsure of. He is a great player for sure, but had to give up the capital from the Williams trade and a lot of monetary commitment. Im really hoping him next to Dex and Kayvon blows up, but my favorite signing of the day is still Jermaine Eluemunor. Happy with the moves today though overall and hoping Runyan isnt Glowinski 2.0

This is true, Though this this doesn’t count against comp picks next year and with the loss of barkley and McKinney, this could in essence be a net neutral of picks. Considering… If we signed a star out right in free agency in a way could cost giants a 2nd round comp next year.

@@goatisnice You play against the Commies twice and the Jets once. take away his stats against two of the worst OL last year and he 5 sacks ... he had ONE sack over the last six games. He gets handled by anyone that intends to block him ... including one v. one by TE. Watch him play, don't just watch the highlights and read the season stats. Dude is trending towards bust. He doesn't show up against good competition. The second Cowboy game he recorded no stats at all even though he played the whole game.

Doesn't help that wink had him dropping into coverage instead of rushing the passer on obvious passing situations. And he had no help. If he is bad this year with burns Dex and hopefully azeez on the line with him then I'll say yea he didn't live up to expectations.

#d3c3...I understand what you mean. However they want to much money and Scheon had to work the room. So he got a star edge....now we can concentrate on WR and possibly QB. In addition, he got 2 quality OL, much better than we had last year. He did not want to pay Saquon or X, two positions that are not highly regarded by today's NFL.

@d3c3pti0n7 Absolutely! The stats/metrics, along with the critics of the Giants, say so. Because the FA OL market was way too high, getting Runyon and the OL player (sorry, still learning to spell his name. By the way our new OL coach knows him well)good but not spectacular, allowed Schoen to trade for Burns. In addition, we get 2 comp draft picks next year (most likely round 3). And yes, they are an improvement over Mark G and Bredeson/Pugh. Not everything has to be a spectacular player. A lot of people only expect name players. NOW Scheon will probably sign a CB and safety that are quality players to work behind a very good front 7. And because we did not sign Saquon, Schoen added a dependable RB. SO, we come out of today with two improvements on the OL. A much needed, very good edge rusher( Azees will become a pass specialits) and w draft picks. We lost one of our seconds, but that is one of the picks we got for Leo. Now we can look at WR ( great draft for WR's ) and / or a QB. Overall, it was a good day for the Giants.

If Jones is still the QB it doesn't matter who we get, we will still be a bottom tier offense, as we've been his entire career. I know this new people running the show upstairs but this pickup with Burns is nice but spending 30mill per yr when in 2021 we had Micah Parson in our lap at the 11th pick we passed on him & as soon as we did Dallas snatched him up in 5 seconds & look at him now Parsons is a stud on rookie contract & our 1st round pick was Kardarius crap Tony who is not even here, please can we hit on ONE 1st rounder besides Eli Manning that would retire in Big Blue legend like Jeeeeeeeez..😣🤦🏽‍♂️

Panthers fan here. Burns is overrated. He’s all speed no strength. My biggest gripe with him was none of his sacks ever come at critical moments. He’s not clutch. I think you guys overpaid. Glad he’s gone.

We got 2 new olineman and are probably gonna draft a new QB. What more did you want? You could maybe say a WR1.. which one were we supposed to sign? In a free agent market barren of them. Today was a relative success and there's still work to be done, it's day 1 of free agency. Not day 1 of the regular season, this is far from the final roster 🤨 In fact this is the first time I've seen any "direction" with this regime, rather than just bending over backwards to keep Gettlemans failed core in tact. Based on this film study, it seems like we have another Kayvon T. - elite speed; so he’ll get some sacks & make some big plays; BUT; - below average power; - focuses on the wide rush to take advantage of his speed, but gets completely washed out of more plays than not; - below average against the run. I’m not as thrilled as I was after initially hearing the news. Seems like a huge money commitment to a 2nd tier guy (not in the elite class like Garrett, Parsons, Watt, Crosby, Bosa etc). I hope I’m wrong.

So now we have Burns Avg against run and slightly above ave pass rusher and Kavon who sucks @ this point against the run. We as a team not good @ stopping the run. Wow yeah it all makes sense now...

Sack totals can be overrated. I’m more interested in guys that consistently provide pressure. Guys that are always disruptive and need to be double-teamed. Guys that keep the offensive coordinator from the next opponent up at night worrying & game-planning to try to control them. A guy can gets 10-12 sacks across 17 games, but otherwise be none of the above. So far, that’s KT. Hoping to see more from him going forward. I haven’t watched enough Burns to have a strong opinion, but this film study worries me a bit given the $$$ layout. We’ll see. I hope I’m wrong and both KT & BB play at a level close to Dex next year. Dex is a true star (a beast !!). He checks all the boxes!
