Many people act like Robert Wadlow is a testament to modern height. He is not. The 1940's isn't modern, and he is not an example of healthy height. His family were not tall. What people overlook is that his height has absolutely "NOTHING" to do with his genetics. His height is due to a tumor, granted its better than a tumor in one of your testicles or ovaries but it still killed him. This is not even something he was born with or could have passed on, he just hit the lottery at a young age, and a particular sunbeam or lead paint chip caused one cell in his pituitary gland, to work improperly. There are 100's of people in the past that were taller than 9 foot and they were healthy. @

So much here is incorrect. True, the height was not due to Robert's family genetics, I'll grant you that. However there actually is some indication that acromegaly (the condition which caused the tumor) can run in families genetically. It doesn't always present the same way or strike someone at the same time in life. The pituitary gland is responsible for more than just height. It can also cause problems with reproductive hormones, blood sugar levels and the tumor itself can press on the optic nerve (the pituitary gland is right behind the eyes) causing problems with sight. Also no, there is no evidence of anyone over 9 feet tall in the past. Any evidence you have is either fabricated or just something you read about on a conspiracy theory forums in the early 2000's. Anyone we have known of who approached 9 feet tall had acromegaly. 100% of them.
