I'm a die hard Detroit Tigers fan and still suffering from a devastating diagnosis of PTSD. I mean how did this mediocre group of outcasts, role players and journeymen inch their way into the playoffs and dramatically outclass great clubs all the way to the dance in October? An incredible pitching staff, one of the greatest catchers of all time and a knack for being clutch when it matters most. Still on paper Detroit was the unquestionable number 1 in the MLB. An intimidating roster that were hungry and riding a wave of momentum that quite frankly seemed unstoppable. Justin Verlander already had multiple Cy Young awards on his resume and a quiet showcase of consistency. Right behind him was that is undisputed Cy Young recipient boasting a 19-2 record on the mound in Max Scherzer. That's about as legitimate of a 1-2 punch baseball has ever seen. Then the remainder of the rotation was incredible as well with journeymen Doug Fister and Anibal Sanchez along with potential ace Rick Porcello rounding out the rotation. Wow. Our bullpen was solid with Juan Valverde, Phil Coke, Juaquin Benoit, Joakim

@benthekeeshond5454 жыл бұрын
They didn't but I never forget "The Freak" is my all-time favorite pitcher. The Freak is responsible for the SF Giants' first WS victory. The 1st one is the most important because, for a long long time, the Giants even when loaded with tons of HOF bums couldn't even get to the WS. Those HOF bums were really good during the regular seasons but when it counted most, they all bummed out one way or the other. While Timmy excelled in the regular seasons and lit up the scoreboard with zeros in the playoffs. Timmy's career is a short one but brilliant and the best SF Giants pitcher ever. I am still hoping the Freak can somehow pitch again in the MLB.

Soria and Joba Chamberlain. Then the batting order struck fear throughout the MLB's elite pitchers. Led by two-time triple crown winner Miguel Cabrera followed by slugger Prince Fielder, Jhonny Peralta, Austin Jackson, Alex Avila, Delmon Young and veteran Torii Hunter in the twilight of his superb career playing a mentor role while batting just under 300 at age 39. Game 1 at Comerica park in Detroit. Tragedy strikes in the form of a heavy set DH named Pablo Sandoval hitting 3 home runs off of our legendary ace, Justin Verlander. It's an iconic image in MLB lore. Verlander frustratingly throwing his glove in the dirt in a fit of rage as " Kung Fu Panda trots around the diamond following the 450 footer that was his third bomb of the day. The momentum on their end and trying to recover was too much

The game happened. Everything in life has its ups and downs, and sport teams are the epitomy of this. Doesnt matter if you're the Giants, Yankees, Miami Heat, Celtics, New England Patriots or whatever... every great and even legendary team is brought down at some point. Players change hands, injuries happen, and life goes on. That doesn't make the team that accomplished those legendary feats like the Giants any less legendary or good of a team. It just means that the world and the game is working in proper order. Besides, you can be the best team in baseball for a decade, and still not be the best when it counts. I don't know of any other team rivalry that epitomizes this more than the Dodgers and the Giants. Dodgers best team in the West (and sometimes even in baseball) for the past 10 years... and what do they have to show for it? 0 WORLD SERIES RINGS. Meanwhile, the Giants are often laughed at when considering the best teams in baseball. Even though they had already won 2 titles, they were still thought to be a joke in 2014... yet they won 3 rings in 5 years. It doesnt matter what your regular season record is... what ultimately matters is if you can perform and execute when you have the opportunity. Dodgers never seem to
@IGtyi39AL78F565 жыл бұрын
@@jenniferhamels1176 True as they hype themselves as we got to look back on Giants history as they have been there to of winning divisions back then but could never get over the hump to win the World Series. Until now of this decade as I wish they could have won 6 World Series. Yeah Dodgers really don't have nothing to show for it as there counter parts of players are about to leave of there best players.
