The self-governing people of Gibraltar need to recognise when they are well off and be careful what they wish for. Representation at Westminster, particularly given the nature of the current UK government, is not the answer. What difference could a solitary MP make anyway? Neither should the people of Gibraltar fear there being no treaty between the UK and the EU. No deal is always better than a bad deal, as we in the UK now know to our cost.

The problem with these people, in addition to being elderly and naive, is that they want to have their cake and eat it, namely having an MP in Westminster while keeping their existing level of self-government. That was what was proposed for Malta in 1956, which would have had three MPs, all of whom either at a loose end or voting on what didn't apply to them, which is one of the reasons why the UK backed out of it and it ultimately failed. Those who do not learn the lessons of history are doomed to repeat them.

Fancy addressing an audience wearing a tight polo shirt showing off his arms and wearing Elton John's glasses and aunties bangle...? It's not an inspiring look is it...?

Indeed not, it's as if he doesn't care. He could at least have worn a short sleeved shirt with a Union Jack tie. 😀

Watching Joe Caruana in this is painful - he's one of the last integrationist politicians still alive, the only other one being Joe Bossano, who no longer is one. Bob Peliza is dead, Maurice Xiberras is dead, after Joe goes, who'll be left? Danny Feetham uses the term 'devolved integration', but it's word salad.

Take your sorrow to the UK they don't see you as British, face the facts your were not in their best interest when they left the EU. The UK is going downhill fast, take the deal and run.

How would you know how the British feel about Gibraltar? As a Brit, I know there is a great deal of fondness for Gibraltar in the UK. Gibraltar is also a place of great strategic importance to the UK. Clearly, you see all this as giving you some sort of advantage in your desperate quest to recover the Rock. The self-governing people of Gibraltar need to recognise when they are well off and be careful what they wish for. @@anonnemo2504 It's clear when you left the EU, Gib was not of any concern. Fondness is not caring. As to self-governing based on the treaty is not possible, unless agreed by Spain. I don't see that happening anytime soon. I have nothing against Gib the Llanitos are great people which are misguided. You got it correctly when you said its a strategic point and that is all the interest to the UK.

@@smoca9338I suggest you compare the sizes of the UK's and Gibraltar's electorates before drawing such ridiculous conclusions regarding British attitudes to Gibraltar (British too, by the way, and always will be) from the Brexit vote. Spain has, and will have, no say whatsoever in how the people of Gibraltar govern themselves. That is another quite ridiculous claim. I understand, however, that people may utter such things to sustain their impossible ambitions.
