@dingusfuzzklonnkt27552 жыл бұрын
@@michaelcosta7235 the price is fair for a Gibson. The problem they have is 2k will buy you a superior instrument in today's market. I worked at the memphis plant for 12 years until they shut down, I've got love and own a few Gibbos. Unless you're a die hard brand fan or collector, once you start talking about the 3k mark you're in the Suhr, Prs, and Heritage custom shop territory. Unless you're buying a hollowbody there's not too much special or unique about where your 3k is going. You can buy the exact Gibson formula for construction in material and build from Prestige for $1299, that price also includes a burl top and ebony board. So yea 3k isn't too much for a guitar, it's too much for a Gibson singlecut with standard appointments.
@michaelcosta72352 жыл бұрын
@@dingusfuzzklonnkt2755 your numbers aren't accurate a non custom shop, non artist model, non ten top PRS core single cut PRS is 4100.00 retail. A Heritage non custom shop, non artist model standard H-150 is the same price as its Gibson equivalent ar 2600.00. Prestige guitars are made primarily in Korea with components from other manufacturers, poly finishes and a pau ferro fretboard so thats not even a comparison. Suhrs standard bolt on neck Strat clones retail at 3000.00 so I'm not sure why we would even discuss them on a set neck single cut topic but they aren't cheaper. The fact is, Gibson prices are right there in the same price point as the other USA made guitars and the only valid argument against their price is subjective reasons anyway. Not to mention you can get true USA made Gibsons for less than those other brands new today. 1299.00 for a made in USA Tribute model. The Adam Jones price is fair. You get a silver burst finish not offered on any other model, pickups no offered on any other model, model specific case candy and your favorite artists tribute that would otherwise cost you 15-16 grand just to buy a used real 1979 custom silverburst at this time. Plus you supported a USA company paying USA employees a much getter wage then the 20 pound bag of rice some place in China paid a worker for the week.

Why does Gibson “release” a guitar you can’t even buy? Maybe I’m crazy, but I though companies were in business to make money. I called all over the country looking for one of these to buy today. None available. I called Sweetwater and they are looking at October. Chicago Music Exchange was September if I remember correctly. Gibson should have had about 10k of these ready to ship on “release” day. You know, a day THEY chose. Ok. Rant over.

But bless your hearts, halfway through so far, and y'all are doing your best to elevate this very insignificant Les Paul. I'm a huge Les Paul fan and I think it sounds great in this demo (as expected), especially in Cooper's hands. "VOS finish" lol! That's how I was able to snag my newest Les Paul - simply a regular "Classic" - at a nice discount. I took some Mother's Mag Polish to the finish polishing flaws, and in less than 10 minutes, it was perfect. But where I was going with this was the case - the same contemporary case as this one. It surprised me, but I really like the latches on it. Thanks gents - from elsewhere in Texas...

It's three hundred more than a regular standard. For the extra money you get the artist branding and custom features including 70s neck profile with volute, ebony fretboard and mother of pearl inlays. Usually don't see mother of pearl inlays in anything other than a custom. Those really do look so much better up close than the plastic ones. As far as Gibson as a whole, they are more expensive than other brands but the materials and labor involved is pretty insane compared to most other brands. Doing all the inlays, binding, maple tops over mahogany body and neck through body is very labor/time intensive compared to a guitar with a slab body and bolt on neck. The cost of Mahogany and maple they use on the standards is also way higher than say the alder Fender is using. Of course, you don't need all that fancy junk but it's nice and they tend to retain their value well over time.
@SlimeyGuitarStrings2 жыл бұрын
A Les Paul Standard is about $2700 these days. This version has a couple specifications which are weird. Ebony fretboard (not normal on standards), volute (not normal on les pauls), mother of pearl inlays (not normal on standard), and a high output pickup (not normal). The volute, as far as I'm aware, has not been done in a very long time on a les paul and most of those specs are otherwise reserved for les paul customs. If you're wondering why a les paul in general is so expensive, that's a different question. Fender style guitars are designed to be utilitarian instruments that are easy to build, easy to maintain, etc. Les Pauls are the opposite. They have a set neck, not a bolt on. A thicker body which means you need a bigger slab of wood to build the guitar out of. They also have binding and other small features which are more labor intensive which means they need hands on them. Labor is expensive so they cost a lot more to build than a telecaster for example.
@skatterpro2 жыл бұрын
@@Somenite Everything Gibson does, two handfuls of companies do cheaper. And Better. Hell, Gibsons are INFAMOUS for their terrible QC, feature sets and essentials, like tuning stability, in the last 2 decades or so. Gibsons are expensive for the same reason Ray Bans are expensive - the logo and the ability to trick boomers with lifestyle marketing. There is NOTHING warranting its price.
@Somenite2 жыл бұрын
@@skatterpro 95% of the QC complaints I see people griping about with Gibson are small cosmetic things related directly to the extra features you get which require manual finishing such as poor scraping or bleed/overspray on binding. Be curious what company you think is including features like binding, large inlays and using high end wood and not veneers that are priced cheaper. In my opinion, Gibson never fixed the tuning stability issues with Les Pauls because their consumers would never stand for it as shown by what happened during the Norlin era. I've had a 79 LP custom since the early 80s and never had an issue and I credit that to the fact that it has a reduced headstock angle that Norlin used a few years. To me, that Norling era change was an improvement but the Gibson customers went nuts and they went back to the 17 degree angle. They could do that, modify the headstock slightly or add a string tree but their customers won't stand for it because they are traditionalists and/or think it affects the sound. I don't consider that Gibsons fault because they are giving into consumer demand.
