I played with one of these at a music shop I used to work. I'm still kicking myself for not buying it eleven years later. Easily the most beautiful reverb clean I've ever played, and just so expressive.

Yeah the clean sound on this thing absolutely floored me.

Billy Howerdel from A Perfect Circle uses this along with his modded Marshall for the later APC albums and in his live rig. He uses the Gibson kinda like a big preamp/distortion box into the powersection of the Marshall.

I have been playing one for nearly 20 years. It is seriously cool. The early ones had plastic tube sockets and a particle-board cabinet. Since in a class A amp the tubes are hot non-stop, they had some reliability problems. Gibson eventually wrapped it in decent wood and used ceramic tube sockets, and that took care of it, but by then the amp had a crap reputation for unreliability. Mine's getting a bit long in the tooth - now requiring its third reverb repair. Also, it has some tube rattle at higher sound pressure levels, undoubtedly a function of cabinet/chassis resonance. 12AX7 pre-ampt tubes, EL 84 power valves. Best amp in the world? No, but it has made marvelous tones in my backline for a long time.

You want to get the ones made in USA, NOT made in England. Most of the black ones are made in USA. USA ones will have the speaker support screws visible on the front of the amp. Also, the USA made ones are not quite as bright.

Nice to hear him using a mic on this one , it never sounds real out of a red box to me although I appreciate that it is convenient.

The velocette had 10" and no reverb. But the velocette is a cool amp in it's own right

I have 2 of the Trace versions. Amazing amps, once you fix it from destroying itself. Hahah

Leon: Is there a Fractal amp model of this Gibson amp?
@LeonTodd4 жыл бұрын
Not this specific one but the "gibtone Scout" model is really good for warm cleans!

They were cool amps but they missed it just by a little bit.

Sweet cleans, underrated IMO

They were amazingly built. A little lacking on Headroom for the money you had to pay for them. They were rather expensive. I only owned one the gold tone ga5.
