Another great video. I don't understand why a video showing someone unpacking a guitar gets 40 k views and yet your videos which are so informative, and presented extremely well don't get those viewing numbers. The world is weird. Please keep up the great work you do. Thanks heaps.

Your videos are awesome! I started watching about a week ago and have learned more about guitar tech than in the last 20 years of playing them!

Cheers, thanks for commenting. I really like the artist who did them, his stuff is great. Unfortunately he has moved to Japan so I probably can't get any more done by him.

I never knew about scale length until recently when I was looking for a replacement neck of a Dean guitar I have. The headstock broke off so I needed a new neck. I like my Strat, but I always liked how the Dean felt & played better. I never had any idea as to why they played differently. I just knew 1 felt better in my hands than the other. My Dean has a 24.75" and I guess the Strat has the 25.5".

Sorry to hear about your headstock! You're the perfect example then of a blind test, knowing you like one more than the other. It isn't necessarily something everyone would know about, but it's absolutely essential to how the guitar is built. Good luck work your new neck.

I've been playing 6 string baritones (27 inch scale length) with 72 gauge strings for metal for the past 20 years or so, tuned down to A. I recently bought an LTD Viper (24 3/4 inch scale length) with 10-46 strings, and I absolutely love the way it plays! I can do so much more technical finger work with that shorter scale and the lighter gauge strings. And I now love D'Addario strings.

Cool, it's rare to hear someone move from regularly playing baritone guitars to a more standard style, normally it's the other way around. What made you buy the Viper?
@hemipirate
@hemipirate 3 жыл бұрын
@@DevilAndSons Mainly it was the bodystyle and finish. Just wanted to add it to my collection. It's red (see thru black cherry)... never owned anything other than black guitars so I figured I'd mix it up a little. Glad I did.

Great video. Would have been nice to hear about tuning stability and which intonates better
@DevilAndSons
@DevilAndSons 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much. The tuning stability isn't really related to the scale length but to the bridge, tuning pegs, and some other elements. Maybe I'll do a video about that?

Thanks as always for commenting. Sounds like you still have a nice collection of guitars. I made this video partly because I was making a baritone for someone (covered in my most recent video) and thought I should explain the lengths as I find it so interesting.

Great video and informative. I subbed. So if you have shorter fingers would a Gibson scale work better for me? ....In theory? I play blues and cords alot. Thanks.
@DevilAndSons
@DevilAndSons 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much. In theory it means you don't have to stretch so far to reach across the same number of frets, although in practice I imagine it's not going to make a huge difference, but I think it would make a slight one.

i always struggle when i try out New Guitars that are not Fender and end up selling then quickly due to this issue. My fingers are so used to the spacing on fenders, which suck cause i love the look of explorers etc..
@DevilAndSons
@DevilAndSons 7 ай бұрын
It is annoying. I think some brands will make explorers that have a 25.5" scale length, but often the target audience of shredders like either a smaller scale or a bigger one (I.e. baritone scale lengths seem to be getting more popular) so they can down tune better.
