Just like with Tomboy, Soyeon once again revealed that some people at the company weren't sure about releasing this track - thinking that it was perhaps too "erotic". But she still fought for it, so I'm so glad that its reception has been so positive. This will encourage I-DLE to keep taking risks and push boundaries in a industry that unfortunately women still don't have much freedom to do so. Especially an idol group. And Cube will hopeful keep investing in them with the resources to do so too. Because we all know they would be like "I told you so" if 'Nxde' wasn't a success and perhaps the next comeback wouldn't have the big budget the girls deserve. okay I just fell in love with the symbolism/visuals of this song and can't help talking about it. Like starting from the animation itself, it seems like a reference of Jessica Rabbit, one of the most infamously sexualised characters in animation. In addition, the outfits they have with the feathers on and the hairstyle especially has a reference to the burlesque movement but at the same time reminds me of the 1920s or the flappers age in America where women were starting to have a sense of self expression and began going against the soiciety norms. There's also the multiple references to Marlyn Monroe who was again one of the most sexualised figures of hetr time. The book Soyeon reads is a collection of poems called Leaves of grass by Walt Whitman and it received so much controvery for it's deption of human body and talking about other sensual stuff. In addition, the entire film critiques the concept of the male gaze and reminds me of what both John Berger and Laura Mulvey talks about. John Berger in his ways of seeing talk about how women in art, paintings etc were created for the male gaze and observe subservient poses and generally appear meek and willing. The scenes of the idols in a musem surrounded by people who take pictures of them shows a critque to that, and the scene in 1:37 where theu move through statues of women further reinforce the idea. I just love the last animation scene cause it's just a messy 2D animation but it has so much emotion cause each girl shows distress when some article of clothing is removed but smiles in the finishing pose becxause they are forced to be like that in the showbiz industry. And the scene where the painting is shredded is just chef's kiss and my favourite part of the entire video. It refers to an incident where one of Banky's street art pieces was actuioned off and it started shredding itself after the auction as a big fuck you to the people who try to use his art to make money. Well you can apply the same to this scenario as well and that's just incredible. I'm sure I have missed a lot of references cause this is just brain vomit after seeing the video but I just love the concept so much and couldn't help but talk about it.

I have read that they made the song since men in Korea search for children nude, and now this song pops up. In my latest lecture we spoke about a theory from the feminist film theorist Laura Mulvey where she explains the term “The male gaze”, a term that basically explains how women are sexualised. It makes a lot of sense, especially if you know the story of Marlyn Monroe. I think it’s very well performed
