A few people have pointed out that rocks with moisture in them explode which makes a lot of sense. Nothing to do with air pockets then. Also its not a good idea to store your fish fillets wet but to pat them try. I generally do this after I get home but I think I gave the wrong idea in this video so thought I'd best clear that up. I still think its a good idea to wash any slime or blood off if possible or you could pat it off with a towel at home ? Fish species and gear used is in the video description as always 👍🏽

I used to wash groper fillets under water, but now just damp paper towel to get the blood and scales off, heaps better

Actually you were correct with air pockets, moisture in the rock is heated and boils creating oxygen(Air) which expands and the rock blows. River rocks are the worst.

We have a similar cousin to your wrasse here in the Northeast US…they live in wrecks snd rocks mostly. we call them tautog or blackfish and they are fantastic eating and a great fight. They wont hit lures though- they like hunks of crab or small bits of clam or mussel. They also are notorious for running you into the wreck.

It's usually water in the rock that turns to steam and expands by 1800% causing the rock to explode. Love your videos man.

Thanks for the awesome vids. You got me started southwest rock fishing 2 years ago. Since then I've got king fish to 15kg, Snapper 85cm, Dhuie 90cm Blue grouper 15kg. And plenty of. Be blessed and stay safe!

Moisture in rocks can cause the rock to explode when heated. Water expands about 1600 times when it turns to steam. We have to be careful with River rock here, have had a couple scares over the years. The drone footage was epic, what a gorgeous location. Great fish to end the video on. 🤙🏼
