Just saw a comparison with the C2 Ultra. The C2 looked a bit brighter with more punch, but the tone mapping looked better on the Valerion. That said, you likely won't have both and either one in their own should look great.

I want to use either this fresnel screen from valerion which is 1.8 gain or the vividstorm lenticular ALR screen which only rejects light from above and below, not from the sides and that one is 0.8 gain. Since I will use in a living room with white walls and ceiling, like yours, do you think the low gain screen with better viewing angles but less light rejection from the side would be better? Because this projector has to be at max brightness to use EBL and everyone is saying it is crazy bright on small screens like 100". Would the 0.8 gain be better? I'll only watch at night with lights off but there will be room reflections.

Another day, another gushing non-critical review of the Valerion. However good or bad this thing eventually turns out to be, there's no faulting the company's excellent blitz of willing KZbin reviewers! I'll remain cautiously optimistic that it might be quite good - but it's worth noting that I don't recall having previously seen DLP rainbow effect captured on video so well..! (Edit, I did enjoy this review, but I do think it's healthy to retain some scepticism.)
@DLPHomeCinemaАй бұрын
Yes this and many other videos are not critical but there are several critical reviews if that is what you want. Lookup Projector Junkies reviews of both the Plus 2 and Pro 2 for example. If you read those you will see they are incredibly in depth and took weeks to complete. You can also lookup Projector Junkies KZbin channel to see him lighting up a 320" commercial cinema screen which is quite impressive. I speak as one of the Valerion beta testers that has had this projector for several weeks now - despite the unserious nature of some of the KZbin content this thing is the real deal.
@SaabUnleashedАй бұрын
I get what you mean, but I will say this is the best projector I have personally tested and I have quite a few other laser projectors. The Hook Up does a great comparison video where you can see the difference against other brands if you haven't seen it. Regarding the rainbow affect, that is going to be related to the incompatible refresh rate that my camera was set at during recording, it's actually pretty bad watching it back. When you're sitting in front of the screen, the rainbow affect is nowhere near that visible
@Louis_MazziniАй бұрын
@@SaabUnleashed Fair. I'm genuinely interested in this thing and think it would be superb if it lives up to all the hype that's been building. Happy to go on record saying I'd be surprised if it does - but equally happy to be proved wrong. On the rainbow front, I admit that I'm especially susceptible to seeing them and have never seen a single-chip DLP that wasn't plagued by them, but I know people who have never seen one ever, even on DLPs from twenty years ago. Anyway, if Valerion's final retain version is a fraction as good as their ability to get this thing talked about, then they're on to a winner! Cheers.

I believe all the tests are using a special ALR screen provided by Valerion. Might we be disappointed if we can't achieve the same quality with our regular screens and walls?
@SaabUnleashedАй бұрын
ALR only helps if you are using the Valerian in a room with ambient light, or a room with light coloured walls that will reflect light. In these circumstances, and brand of long throw ALR will be fine. In a dark, light controlled room, you don't need ALR

@OwenL2020Ай бұрын
Any projector thrown onto a white painted wall is going to lose sharpness detail and contrast. Regardless of the projector you’re always better off with a dedicated screen.

There is special paint you can use that I have heard work pretty well!
@DLPHomeCinemaАй бұрын
Did you hang the screen upside down as recommended for ceiling mount??
@SaabUnleashedАй бұрын
Hanging the screen upside down just impacts the viewing angle. Like this, the screen displays brighter images when I am standing, and slightly dims when I sit down. The opposite happens when the screen is the right way up, it is dimmer when I'm standing, but when I sit on my sofa, it is brighter.
@SaabUnleashedАй бұрын
It's worth noting that I am only ~2.5 metres from the screen which is probably designed for larger rooms. If I was sitting further back, it would likely be better

Question: The Max has an IRIS like old Lamp Projectors. What is it for? It has Laser, so the Laser should be dimming, why do they need an IRIS? It there no Laser Dimming? If the Laser is able to dimm, what does it do , if the pic is all back? Does it turn off? I love that in the EPSON Projectors. Sitting in a tital dark room after a jumpscare is crazy :D

The Iris will make the contrast in dark scenes even more dramatic. It will reduce the over all light by reducing what is let out.

@@kuvakertomo So I actually projected from two locations. One with the Projector on a camera tripod directly behind my sofa, and then on the ceiling as you see in this video. I did not witness any difference in brightness between the two locations. HOWEVER, it is worth noting that viewing angle is a thing, and to get the best out of the image, I have to be sitting on my sofa. When standing, the screen is darker. You suggesting rotating the screen would actually be an interesting test, but then I wonder if it would be darker when sitting down and brighter when standing :D

I touched on this a bit, this room is painted gloss white, which is not great for a projector room, so the ALR does help here for contrast, but the ALR screen does cause laser speckle. If you have a dark room, you won't need ALR
