I had a friend from Germany that told me about alot of these bands. I used to go over to his place and spend hours listening to this stuff. It was great,and still is. Thanks,Alvin Schmidt for the good times.

"got to find a way" 2014 new version - ready for download at itunes, amazon, musicload etc. - February 14 th 2014
Funny how everybody's heard of the British invasion of rock bands in the 1960's,but nobody seems to have noticed there were a LOT of really good bands coming out of Germany in the 1970's.
@LorentzHaugen7 жыл бұрын
I honestly, as an all-over, like the german "invasion" better. Clearly som elf the biggest names did come from the UK, but so much great stuff from Germany.
@garyabbot46596 жыл бұрын
you mean krautrock?
@profemeritus5346 жыл бұрын
I think the deeper rock community properly acknowledges all the great talent that came out of Germany at that time. Gift, Lucifer, Amon Düül, Parzival and the list goes on in various genres: all super music. There are however 2 problems, that makes krautrock less appealing compared to the British alternative: 1) Many german rockbands were "copiers". That doesn't mean they weren't able to produce equally fantastic music, but they weren't the "new wave", that always felt unique, they were 1-2 years behind of what happened in the mainstream scene. This track for example was recorded in 1974 - that year even bands like Deep Purple were moving to more "hard rock" vibes, and punk was becoming a thing. 2) Altough they mostly sang in English - and I must note, with almost perfect English - the lyrics were clearly wrote with German minds. And unless someone is a native-speaker, it takes years of practice to express yourself in an ornate style in a different langue. The British obviously didn't had this problem and they even borrowed a lot from the American blues in terms of lyrical themes (think of the Rolling Stones), that was both simple to understand, yet full of metaphors and other (almost folk-like) poetrical elements.

So far I know, Frumpy was on a UK Tour, but Inga Rumpf is an exception at all. Some Bands were not mentioned. Jane and the Album "Together" were quite successful. Then Birthcontrol with Gammaray, even politically up to date now. I also liked stuff like Big City from Thirsty Moon. Randy Pie played the american style Funk earlier than Mother's Finest came here to their legendary Rock Palast Gig. Bad English yeah great stuff already on the first Eloy Album, but Frank Bornemann says himself English was his handycap, Scorpions same, but Americans like Gomorrha (I turned to see whose Voice....) horrible The Lords but they were honest and said themself so. But I think also most Bands didn't have really good Equipment, no such Label and Management. A really exciting and very hard playing Band was Blackwater Park, anyway some might be pure Krautrock but I still prefere to listen to Ramses, Anyone's Daughter, Grobschnitt (Solar Music), Wallenstein, Karthago, Kin Pin Meh and so on instead of what I hated this jazzrock psychedelic ethno stuff like Embryo, Passport, Kraan etc.

@@profemeritus534 There are quite a few reports like video documentaries about this era. Also many Band members are looking back now. German Rock was not supported they say, not even german press and rock magazins did so. Big stories about all british and american Bands no matter if they were good or not. And just about 5 lines in a little ticker box for german Bands. If they tried to live from making music , they had to go to the job centers if the income was short. Just like everbody who is unemployed. No artist agencies at that time where people are getting gigs for you, press interviews, fotos dates and so on. The feelings and tradition was there. American Rock N' Roll started about the same time as in America. Bill Haley and Jerry Lee Lewis and they all came here in the early fifties. I think 1956 the year I was born was the last year when a cinema was choosed for a live concert. Nobody has ever done this again. All seats were broke and the rest looked like a battlefield. They understood Rock N' Roll is no music for taking a seat. Just not like a musical or opera. Inga Rumpf and Frumpy played covers in american clubs more than likely US Army places. That gave them many gigs professionality and a good income. I got early in touch with british bands they came over here, because they could not live from making music in UK. The only album from LAZY FARMER is now high rated Folk with Rock elements. My country had a little revival or re-birth after Julian Cope published his Book about Krautrock in the 90s. He is a very good musician himself . David Bowie lived about 2 Years in Berlin. And we keep really old american Bands alive. If you want to watch Big Brother (Janis Joplin*s Band) come here.

Geiles Lied!
