You have a natural talent for being entertaining as well as knitting. So appreciate the honesty about the gift knits. Go for the JOY!

Thank you! I've casted-on something that is bringing me all of the joy and I can't wait to share about all it soon!

The lack of enthusiasm for the yarn or color of project gift knitting is what makes it suitable for the recipient (and easier to hand it over to the recipient). It's so hard to knit something you love knowing that it's going to end up on someone else. It's amazing what you can get accomplished on the subway! The dipstitch on your black scarf reminds me of the larger cables on the Hiedre mitts. The log fire behind you looks like a shack on fire. LOL! Beautiful job on the vest for your mom - and what a monumental effort considering all of the adjustments you had to make - I hope she loves it! I shy away from sewn bind-offs because I have had to pull them back so many times because of changes I wanted to make in the length of garments.

The gift knitting experience is a unique one. Yes, my knitting comes with me everywhere, so I may as well get some knitting time in while I commute to work. I wish I had a fireplace and look forward to the day to place actual logs onto the fire that I will feature in my backdrop, instead of the screen version.

@@pairswellwithknitting We had a fireplace in my childhood home, and when I had the opportunity to have one in my apartment, I jumped at the chance. At first, it seemed enjoyable, but the effort it took to keep it going by continually stoking it made it lose its charm. I think it's like a pool; it needs to come with a "fireplace boy" (the equivalent of a pool boy) to maintain it.

Very much enjoy your podcasts. As far as the Soldotna, I would definitely rip out the ribbing but I would leave out the rust color in the ribbing. I’d use just the brown . Mine was wild w color choices and I wanted to showcase my crazy side and used the M/c for binding off on the bottom. Thanks for all the time you invest on your podcasts 💜

You're too kind! I love the sound of a wild Sodotna! Mine is still in WIP form, but yes I will use the rust colour on the ribbing. I've just cast-on something glorious and can't seem to put it down.

I’m still pretty new to sock knitting. I prefer magic loop unless I’m doing color work. So far I made one pair like that. I can’t say how many times I restarted it until I was happy with it. I’m stubborn and was not going to give up. To avoid the hole I pick up a stitch using the two stitches below and decreasing those stitches (1 each on both sides).
@pairswellwithknitting16 күн бұрын
That’s a really helpful tip for picking up stitches to avoid a hole! I'll give it a go! I'm happy you stuck with the perfection of sock knitting.

Your knits are beautiful, I haven’t knit a dk sock but hope to in 2025. If you pick up extra sticky on the heel flap gusset are you can eliminate the hole. You would decrease to the number of stitches you need for the foot. It’s the same process that touched would do for pickup for a sleves. I hope this helps.

You're too kind! Thank you for your suggestion. I'll try that on my future socks.

If your husband loves socks I would encourage you to try Christie Archer Designs socks because they don't have any heel turn and gusset. Instead she uses a ribbed design to help them fit. I've made the harvest basket socks for my husband and he loves them. I'm sure your mom will love the vest as well as the dog sweater. Just make sure she knows how to care for the wool so it lasts.

Thanks for the recommendation! I'll definitely look into this design. Yes, I shared care instructions for my mom's gift knits and I will be giving her a bottle of wool wash as well. No excuses! Happy Holidays!

Omg snap! I too LOVE Ruke’s bind off, and I too am knitting a vest for my mom and… not loving knitting it. There are parts I really want to re-do but don’t have the time and just want it off my needles now. But yes, Ruke bind off for the win - I’m using it on everything! Btw think you got cut off at the end of the video there. Happy Holidays from Ireland!

Yes!!!! Ruke's bind-off is so easy and looks super clean. I did get cut-off. My apologies. My hard drive filled-up and I had no idea. Off to purchase a new one! Thank you!

lol I don’t entirely like gift knitting either. I usually rush knits few things leading up to Christmas.

Me too! I tell myself every year either no gift knits or I'll start in January. Then in November, I start gift knitting and wondering why I didn't start months ago!

I did! My apologies. I had a difficult time figuring out the tech side and now know my hard drive is full. Off to purchase a new one, as I have already started filming my 2024 knits review. Merry Christmas!

#thelittleknitscowl - I just bought yarn (Berroco Mercado) to knit sweater no.23! I love the simple design 🥰. Unfortunately, I found a moth two days ago in our cottage and my entire yarn stash and all my woollens are out in the porch for a week of freeze-thaw-freeze! A scoured the house as well. Not taking any chances. Almost done my gift knitting and then this happened😩. Wishing you and your partner a beautiful festive season💞🎄

I’m so sorry to hear about your moth situation! That's terrible. I hope you find time to relax and knit this holiday.

I’m really intrigued by what you call (or what the automated captioning calls) the “rook” ? bind off. I can’t seem to find any link to the video you meant to provide for us. Perhaps I’m blind…happens all the time to me! But if you’ve left it out, could you put it in the show notes when you get the chance? Thanks!

Does the video cut off before the end? It stops in the middle of your sentence. Anyway, I love hearing from others how knitting for gifts an be a bit of a bummer. I'm knitting a cabled scarf for my partner and while I adore the look and feel of cables, I absolutely hate knitting them. And I'm doing a celtic cable on a 2 meter scarf. 🙃
@pairswellwithknitting16 күн бұрын
Yes. My apologies that the video cut short. I've just discovered that my hard drive doesn't have any space left. Off to buy a new one, as I have a ton of knits to review from 2024! I hope you find joy in knitting cables. If you're keen, I put together my favourite tips & tricks for cables here kzbin.info/www/bejne/rYWunZecr9yHf8U&ab_channel=pairswellwithknitting
