Upon his recent release from custody in Mali, where al-Qaeda had held him prisoner for six years, South African Stephen McGown said "Before the desert, I was a Christian. I entered [Islam] of my own accord. I see many good things in Islam. It requires a very good character, a very strict character." A very strict character, huh? Yes, one that's willing to slice off thieves' hands and stone to death girls who've been raped or been found to have a mobile phone. He converted of his own accord? Well, if he's now a Muslim he feels free to lie about that, and it seems entirely possible that he converted as a term of his release. He's very likely under COMPUNCTION now to advertise Islam's goodness. Tell me, Mr. McGown: what IS good about Islam? No Muslim has ever managed to tell me. Moreover, Yusuf al-Qaradawi said four and a half years ago that, "if they [any Muslims since Muhammad] had gotten rid of the apostasy punishment, Islam wouldn’t exist today." That punishment is death. Is THAT what you mean by Islam's goodness, Mr. McGown?
