I cannot tell you how much I have enjoyed this engaging, engrossing and insanely informative series. I think this should be shown to all children through the school systems. I am a visual learner I gained more knowledge from this amazing series than I ever could’ve from 1 million books on the subject. The access they have obtained is almost unprecedented and UNESCA couldn’t have picked a better host. Her warmth was paramount in getting people to open up and be comfortable with the process.

Everyone else as she said towards the middle and new kingdom who INVADED were OUTSIDERS, Claiming Egypt for their own ! And not doing the best job as keeping it together. That’s why there are so many people who have mixed ancestry today. However, the true and most powerful pharaohs as she said were AFRICAN AND BLACK. Gratitude ancestors for AFRICAN HISTORY. Only the Nubians, now Arab Egyptians may have the ancient DNA, but its unlikely. Let me remind you that Europeans and Arabs have been lying for centuries. And, we know who you’re. As an example, consider how Europeans took over America from Native Americans... exactly the same thing happened in Egypt. However, the ancestors of the Kemet/Egyptians migrated out to South, Central and West Africa.

I love how Dr. Hawass said he could find out the queen died from cancer but did not want to do the DNA test. I would do the DNA test because it would be fascinating. But that aside, just from their statues you can see they are Africans, and and most likely mixtures of other races. I don't know why people are still debating that a civilization that is located in Africa could not be African. I love this series, though not perfect, Zeinab Badawi has done a great job trying to present this complex history.

A CT Scan is a noninvasive procedure, that's how they discovered the cancer. DNA testing requires the destruction of parts of the mummies, as it would require bone marrow for the test. And no one is saying the Ancient Egyptians are not Africans, they are the that Egypt and the whole of North Africa is distinct from Sub-Sahara Africa just as the Zulu are distinct from the Mali, and the English are distinct from the Spanish.

Or are you talking ethnically/racially, if you define it through that small minded lens, then North African's are ethnically different than Sub-Saharan African's. Ancient Egyptian's share more genetic markers and similarities to those from Ancient Mesopotamia and Ancient Anatolia. It is true there were "Black" pharaohs but only one short lived dynasty, the 25th dynasty the Nubian's from modern day Sudan and Ethiopia.

This isn't scientifically accurate, and Badawi is wrong to present it in this way. "White" and "black" are modern social constructs. Human population characteristics are fluid and not so easily categorized. Egyptians were not "white" or "black" - they were Egyptian. Claiming that they were either white or black is a product of ignorance at best, and in often an outgrowth of racist sentiment.

@@Andu_music I think the truth is a long story.. & probably a bit more complex than now known. from looking at all the evidence I could see, I do think the early dynasties & Kingdoms had at the very least a ruling royal class of black African ancestry of possibly sub-Saharan origin. but in ancient societies, the ruling class sometimes is not representative of the general population. the only DNA survey of ancient Egyptian remains comes from a middle Egyptian Cemetary w burials dating from around 1200 BC to 1000 AD. so no DNA from the earliest periods are included. its reported that the DNA was relatively stable showing the closest connection to the Levant not sub-Saharan Africa. But I also see what everyone sees, especially in the earlier sculptures..."African" type features in the faces of the royal families. what I also see, it seems, is that over time, the features became somewhat less "African" looking. so this seems to fit in with the later DNA evidence from middle Egypt of the later period. are these royal burials or just upper-class or middle-class burials? it could make a difference in what the DNA actually means. Once the Assyrians & Persians invaded, the foreign influence on Egypt grew. the DNA shows that with the arrivals of Arabs in the 7th century AD...sub-Saharan DNA crossing the desert to North Africa increased during this time. so the entire story is still yet to be fully understood by way of the evidence.

@Esireyewun Sanni 8:28 The wall paintings literally prove it, no arabs or any caucasians can look anything like that or can be nearly that dark and rich brown, its impossible they don't have that melanin and no arabs look like that anywhere unless they are at least half black, these people are the exact same color and appearance as Ethiopians, Eritreans, Somalians or black southern Egyptians like in the video 5:32, you can see this woman as she say's is the exact same color as the majority of the ancient Egyptians in the art, its literally common sense, anyone who denies this is a completely delusional mad person. But because everything you hear about Egypt is dominated by racist biased white people who bombard your mind with movies and cartoon images showing white actors dressing up as Egytians and cartoon images of a fantasy white Egypt, your brain makes you mistake all this conditioning as reality, especially coupled with the years of degrading racist propaganda against Africa and black people by neo-colonizers that dominate the media, its literally a cover up, the first European explorers all admitted they were black at first site of the artworks and the Sphinx, but the European scientific racist darwinists took over the narrative and tried to bully and discredit the first wave of honest explorers and used the power of books and motion picture to create a fantasy whitish/caucsian Egypt that is non existent in the ancient artworks.

@@badmanthings Calm down. You're not tough or smart. Stop pretending like you have any in depth knowledge on the history of the Nile valley. You don't. 13,000 years ago was the end of the PREVIOUS dry phase of the Sahara. It then became wet around 12,000 years ago to 5000 years ago: "The most recent Green Sahara period occurred in the Holocene, in a time frame from about 12 thousand of years ago (kya) to about 5 kya. This phase has been denominated the “Holocene climatic optimum” and is the most well-documented past climatic change [2, 6]. Populations, cultures and industries have populated the Nile Valley for over 200,000 years. It has been a conduit for out of Africa migrations for 100,000 years. They didn't just simply show up cuz the desert got hot. The engine that drove African culture before AE was the Neolithization wherein pastoralists who originated in Ethiopia spread into the wet Sahara, The Nile Valley, north Africa, the Levant and Littoral Europe. They spread language, cattle, agriculture, cultural elements and the kingship tradition throughout these regions. This was BEFORE ancient Egypt or Mesopotamia existed. So during this wet phase , what is now The Sahel was the richest and most fertile land in the world and the center of African culture. It is also the location of the oldest implementation of agriculture going back 15,000 years. The Sahara-Sudan Neolithic was the largest continuous culture in the world at the time and parts of it are still intact to this day. Ancient Egypt was a culmination of African culture. Before Egypt there was Punt or Kush which is also called Nubia. It was this culture Ta-Seti was founded on around 5900 bc. Ta-Seti had at least ten pharaohs before AE was a civilization. It was the cultures in the south that went north to establish Kemet. Before that there were the Badarians, Capsians, Quadan, Halfan, Kebaran and Sebilian cultures. All of those cultures existed in the Nile Valley BEFORE AE and that is only going back 30,000 years. So spare me your elementary school version of African history.

What the BBC series " History of Africa with Zeinab Badawi" has done is not just tell a great story in words, but it has taken viewers "there'' using great videos and pictures to illustrate "lives in the past", of many and different kingdoms that rose and fell in Africa, even before Christ Era to the recent past. The evidence in the artifacts, ruins, cave drawings, traditions etc etc, demonstrate a rich history of the African continent and is sure to make us proud not just Africans, but as a human race, of where and how far we have come from. A big thank you to BBC. Special thanks to this highly accomplished daughter of Africa.

Excellent program. I have been binge watching and to episode 3 now. I hope there is mention eventually of the Kemetians of Kemet. But I guess the area is just being called Egypt even though it wasn't called Egypt prior to the coptic period. And that one guy will be on his death bed before he admit that the great civilizations that built Kemet/Egypt were indeed the African civilizations that lived in that area prior to all the invaders coming in. I do love how the presenter did such a fantastic job of stating the facts and finding the facts of these ancient African civilizations. And thanks to the BBC for backing it.

I'm in love with this series of documentaries: it is true that little to nothing is taught in western schools about the history of Africa and how this links to the history of the humankind. It comforts me the fact that essentially we were all dark-skinned some 8 to 10K years ago, and that Africa is the Motherland to all of us human-beings. Living in Africa for about a decade, I also think that the current inhabitants of Africa, especially black people, should abandon this logic of competition (and victimism) among themselves and towards "the West" and aim at the development of the continent without looking for excuses in international conspiracy, because there is no doubt that the future will be (re) written in Africa. There should not be a dominant culture, but the respect (and knowledge) of all of them. The future of humanity will be hybrid and diversity will just be a form of advantage instead of a source of hate and competition. May the good faith protect and promote our Motherland.

thank you so much for this series! I was waiting for an episode on Egypt hence I am one, three to years ago I started to think about my origins and where do I come from. My father is Egyptian and my mother is Syrian. So I am mixed which was a common thing to take place back in the old days. I don't have too many African features except for my nose which can be viewed as a bit large long side a darker tone skin compared to my sister who is white super white haha (she gets most of that from my mother unlike me). I started to think a little bit deeper about who I truly am? I slowly started to stop calling myself an Arab. the only reason people refer to us as Arabs I due to the language we speak, which got me thinking, you can't call Mexicans Spanish only because they speak the Spanish language. I started to read and educate myself bit by bit, and slowly reach a conclusion where I can call myself an African or a man that comes of African descent. The religion I currently identify with was never my people's religion or belief, it was something that came with the people that crossed the land and came to Egypt. the language I speak right now is also not my own but rather it's the mark that was left by the "occupiers" that came to Egypt. Egypt sadly could not hold on to their language nor beliefs. I sometimes feel so upset that we could not carry all of that forward. I don't know, just like putting this one out there. again thank you, and hopefully, we can have another similar series!

This indicates that the rest of the Africans do not have the same intelligence genes that exist in Egypt. This indicates that the people of Egypt One thing, and Africans are another thing. Great job Mrs. Badawi. It was wonderful to see a narration of African history by Africans. Though UNESCO yielding its judgment on the work of legendary figures such as Cheikh Anta Diop was progressive, monumental, and necessary for the true cultural restoration of the African diaspora around the world, much has to be done to inspire a new generation to explore African history with a pure and untainted perspective.

I am African America. Our family had our DNA test done, and we expected to find Congo and some of the other ones we’ve seen on KZbin. Though we did see Ghana, Timbuktu, and East African regions. We we firstly surprised to see East African. We don’t know any East Africans in the family. Secondly we also had North African. Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia DNA. Yet we don’t know anyone in the family from those areas either. I liked what the black African scholar said. That Egyptians were from all over Africa, that they were a mixture of all Africans from certain regions that migrated to Egypt. That makes a lot of sense to me. It makes the most sense.

The Akan group in Ghana has their own calendar and the Adinkra writings never mentioned. Indeed Africa is complex than what other people were trying to portray. For many years I have questioned the way the Akan's bury their kings and chiefs, very similar to ancient Egypt, things were not adding up, now it makes sense. People don't trust Egyptologist anymore. Their research about ancient Egypt is not considered academic findings because they are not objective and factual. They attached their feelings and ego to their findings that's why they ignored the Sudan civilisation which was part of Egypt back then. Shame on them. The manuscripts found in Timbuktu (Mali) contains lots of information about African civilisations.

Will all of us still can see our ancestors artifacts if they never kept it in their museum.? No, we will take all of our ancient artifacts sell it for a cheap price or destroy it all for the sake of religious reasons. I still feel devastated when the ancient Buddhist Statues in Afghanistan was blown up by Talibans and when the Prehistoric Artifacts and Sites was destroyed by ISIS. No, we still can't kept and study our own history academically. Zainab herself was educated in London not in her ancestral country. She will never be an outstanding historian if she grew up in Somalia.

That's why I will not and want watch it. Keep in mind the first Nile valley civilization was a place called Ta-Seti bordering between Lower Sudan and Upper Egypt. The first evidence of pharaonic culture and hieroglyphs was discovered in a little know Nubian burial site called Qustul, where an incent burner depicting the crown of Upper Egypt was found and dated to be 600+ years before Egypt was a formed nation. I can guaranteed this was never mentioned at any point in this documentary, why because mainstream "academics" are no respecters of honest truth for the time being, but it will come around one-day little by little just like how it took the longest for academics to finally accept that Great Zimbabwe most likely was developed by locals in particular the (Shona people), and not some Hamitic people from the Near East...

Observer St Agree, sometimes these intellectuals think they can fool everyone, had Arabs build any monuments in history, their descendants won’t be tearing them down today, just check what they did in Iraq and Syria. I know Afrocentric don’t like the Bible, if you read the first book of the Bible you will know the race who owns Egypt and for that matter Africa and land of Canaan the present day Israel. Our great ancestor was called HAM, a pure Black man was given Egypt, Ethiopia, Put, the present day Somalia and Canaan. All the above mentioned names were his children and grandchildren. Isn’t it interesting for the same people who try to discredit the Blackman to find the oldest human fossil on the planet in Africa in the riff valley the area between Somalia and Kenya? You just pick the Bible and read it. The descendants of PUT build Putland which was formerly part of Somalia. Egypt is BLACKMAN’S land so says the Bible. Let them lie to themselves. One of the nonsense I have heard these Egyptologist said was, the Egyptians painting themselves black can be equate to what we called selfie’s today It was them taking Selfie’s of themselves wow black is beautiful lol 😂. If you listen to whites Egyptologist, if they are asked this particular question, something what they say will blow your mind, you wouldn’t even believe if they have gone to school for even a day. Ancient Egypt was Blackman’s land, so says the Bible, it wasn’t for Semitic ( Jews and Arabs) it wasn’t for whites and Asians, they were even no where to be found in the biblical records, just check the Bible and interestingly they are the ones leading the charge to discredit Egypt of its blackness.
