I'm trying to learn guitar, solely to play my own music. That's where the joy of playing begins. I don't need other people's approval for my self worth. I'm going to learn and play Slow Blues as my prayer to Heaven.

Enjoyed the video and the playing. Shame to lose that moment while you have the inspiration. Personally, yes there is a lot of music out there but always room for good songs etc. I find as I've got older that I actually listen to genres that I wouldn't have entertained some years ago. You will find your true path and know when it's time to go for it. Good luck.

For you, Rich, you have 21K subs and many others who are not subscribed, who would get exposed to your music and would really like to hear your music. That's better than many. You may continue to grow your channel and your audience. I think you should go for it.

I'm 54 and have only played my original music most my life including live gigs, some paid some not, but it's rewarding to have people enjoy the music I make and far more satisfying to create music rather than playing other people's music. I can't even imagine learning a bunch of covers just for a few bucks. All of the big bands from the 70s,80s, and 90s created and played their own original music, if they hadn't made the music they did, there wouldn't be any covers to play.✌️

Yeah man, except it's not just a few bucks. It helps pay some bills around here. Good luck making any music in my neck of the woods with original music. The guys that have done it have starved and slept on floors etc until they've eeked out a few bucks. Streaming doesn't pay and unless you have some kind of following, gigs with original music might get you fed for the night.

Really enjoyed that Rich on many levels… i started playing in bands when I was 12, 60 this year and still an and always earn money… off to a gig in the midlands (U.K.) tonight with my covers band. Been together for 30 years this year. I also play in another couple of bands, different genres… had the pleasure of visiting Jackson Hole area on a few occasions… loving the Blackstar… sounds great. I have tried gigging with the Helix etc but I guess I’m too used to my valve amps, heavy though they are… loving these gig blogs, keep up the great content and great playing 😀😀

I felt that in my soul about the struggling with wanting to even write. It’s hard to motivate yourself when hardly anyone is going to go to the original show and you likely will end up spending money to play the gig rather than make any.

I can very much relate to the creative thing. I play in pubs doing solo acoustic cover gigs, because I need the money too. I would love to be out playing my own stuff, but that doesn't pay. I've struggled with that feeling of "why bother", when it seems all they want is Wonderwall. But it becomes worth it when I do record something new or play a showcase gig.

Hi, I’m planning on doing solo acoustic gigs in the Cambridge, U.K. area .. would you be ok sharing your list of “go to” songs I should make sure I know? Aside from Wonderwall of course! :D

Great video! Love the sound of a 3 pc band, drummer worked out! For me, when it comes to recording original music I get pretty lazy and programming drums wears on me. Cover gigs I get to cut loose playing familiar songs people enjoy. Plus gigs help me break even and cover expenses. But it would be great to find that perfect balance!

Recording mostly with the FM3. There's a band I've played with that only goes direct no cabs on stage. If I ever get to play with them again, I'm going to dial in some fm3 patches.

@@RichBischoff did my first gig with mine last Saturday, flawless. The only thing I need to do is customize my performance screen with knobs I need lol Forgot to do it and found myself digging a bit to make adjustments. Other than that, nothing but great comments on my tone!! Still learning this thing too. Cheers!!

G’day Rich, write your originals, and include one or two in each of your covers band gigs and see how the audience reacts. I know a lot of musicians who have done this in the past and it can give you a gauge of what you are writing and how Joe Public reacts. Also great version of pride and joy. I so enjoy the original and me trying to play it!! Keep making music, it feeds the soul.

You’re putting your own style and arrangements on those covers nothing wrong with that. I play plenty of covers too. I’m always writing and working on something with my band and various projects. You are very talented and should be making original music just because you aren’t playing a set full of songs you wrote isn’t a reason to not create. Love the channel man the fill In drummer done well with you fellas

You bring up a very good point. I have noticed that as most get older, their creativity seems to go down. I think if you stay at a constant effort, then you will hit on more ideas, or at least they seem to just flow out by happenstance. You just can't sit down once a month and expect a good idea to come to you. A lot of people will have an idea while doing everyday things, and they will record a message to keep the idea from slipping away. I've many ideas while sleeping and wake up, and think I'll remember that and when morning comes, I can't remember the idea. One last thing I found was "brain storming" with a friend can produce some good ideas.

Hey man. Really enjoy your channel. Really good mix of stuff. Interested in what you said about making original music these days. I’m probably a similar vintage to your good self and it can be very hard to find the motivation to create something when getting an audience for it is extremely easy in thoery but extremely difficult in truth. I have a band that’s making records and putting music out and it can be a real slog. But the only thing I’d say is maybe try doing g something different sonically than you’ve done before. But nothing ridiculous. Something stylistically that you have considered in the past. You just need to get excited about one new song and you’ll be flying.

Yes & No... There IS way too much music, but you SHOULD always create more if you're promoting & marketing your music to build upon your own community of music lovers/supporters.There's always going to be people who have the same tastes for whatever the flavor is. It's crazy, there's supposed to be 8B people in the world. Numbers like THAT there's almost more music lovers than musicians can serve so-to-speak.Ha! I dig your gig vlog vids Rich! It’s easier to write your own songs when you stop listening to everyone else. I used to think like you are in this video but then I stopped listening to others and new songs started to flow. No one listens to my music but like you said it still gives me joy and it’s really fun to look back at my progress over the years. If I didn’t keep writing and recording I wouldn’t see the progress. I also never get to play live so I really envy what you get to do. Sounded awesome in these clips! What more do you need? Loved the simple gear setup. That Tele sounds killer 💪
