I remember going to this movie with my siblings when I was still in high school and they did this thing when you buy a ticket for the movie they gave you special Pokémon card packs that a detective pikachu card, it was really cool

The first time I have heard about "Two Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Place" is from the Clerks the Animated series. I thought it was a joke. The movie is a fun little time.

What a relevant time to release a new Pokemon Go to the Movies. Something I was thinking about while listening to this was that if nothing else, Detective Pikachu didn't need a heap of backlash to redesign the titular character.

It's a shame that some cool ideas about the expectation that people find Pokemon partners and a setting where battling is prohibited (but done in secret in underground fight clubs) were wasted because Hollywood couldn't let this movie go without a trite focus on family.

As much as you might think the plot of this movie is dumb: and it is, the Plot of Detective Pikachu 2 (The game which came out AFTER THIS MOVIE), copy and pasted the plot nearly exactly. Right down to the mad scientist putting himself into a legendary Psychic Type, and Pikachu secretly being the main character’s dad. It seems like that plot was always the end goal of this franchise. Somehow

Not to mention, the new Detective Pikachu also mentions that this movie exists, with Tim's sister asking why she wasn't in the movie along with their mom. Which is also comical when you consider that Tim's response is that he has "no idea, but movies usually do their own thing, don't they" and then the plot of the game just does that at the end.

I look at Mr Mime in this movie and all I can hear is the sound doge balls hitting things in a school gym. All Mr Mimes probably have that doge ball rubber smell to them as well.

Ryan Reynolds sounds more cursed than bad. He did good in Deadpool... and probably something else. Anyways, glad to have this series (and Bleach) back, even for just a couple more months. I rediscovered some Gen 4 lore the other day explaining why humans use Pokemon instead of conventional weaponry. According to myth, some tribal human went on a Pokemon-killing spree with a sword. In the version you find in D/P/P, an unnamed Pokemon implied to be Arceus or Giratina hides all the Pokemon and tells this dude to stop or starve to death, so he does. But in the gigaleak take on that myth, this dude is a freak who disfigures Pokemon as well as killing them. He ends up hibernating through the winter alongside an Ursaring elder, and the cave they're in seems to fill with the anthropomorphized versions of all the Pokemon he killed and maimed. He doesn't get it. The Ursaring escorts him back to his village with instructions to bring witnesses to meet a Wailord and a "sent man" nearby, but without his sword. He still doesn't get it - maybe, because the language used implies that this might be setup for a public execution, and he prepares accordingly. When the guy and the villagers go to the Wailord, they also see a Teddiursa, who promptly jumps into a bush and summons an Ursaring. The guy brings his sword out of hiding, but it jams in its sheath. So, this absolute madlad charges the Ursaring with his bare hands and pulls off a mutual kill. The villagers go back and report it. In hindsight, having the guy go out like a chad wouldn't have gotten the point across as well as the depopulation metaphor, setting aside the unheard-of levels of gruesome Pokemon violence happening along the way. Sorry for text-dumping, I really wanted to talk about this somewhere.

I never saw this movie until tonight and boy did I hate it. I'm sorry, Pokemon is automatic dynamite that literally anybody should be able to write a movie about. There is simply no justification for failing this hard to find a story to tell about Pokemon. Life, no possibility of parole.
