When I first watched this show, I did so solely with Power Rangers and Sentai on the brain. Now, having seen a variety of other shows, I see so much other stuff in this project, especially Evangelion. And knowing Anno's beginnings, interests, and inspirations for Eva, I feel like this has brought it all full circle.
