That is to say if i hook up a paperclip to pins 15 and 16 and turn it on, should the fan start spinning and remain spinning? If the fan spins for a split second then stops, is this indicative of a defective unit, or is this jus the "fan stop" feature turning the fan off when under 20% load?

Hi, I really love the entire field of switching power supplies and how they work right down to the component level. You did a review on the Corsair 1600 watt power supply some time back but you really did not go into nearly as much detail on exactly how this particular power supply works. I am referring specifically to the A.C incoming current from the wall. Normally in a power supply, the A.C. comes into the power supply and then through the various E.M.I. filters and then to the bridge rectifiers or two rectifiers. In the case of the Corsair power supply, where does the incoming A.C. go to change to D.C. since it does not appear to have the conventual bridge rectifiers? I have looked in many places online and have not been able to find a good explanation of how exactly this power supply works. I bought one for a build I am doing for myself and I really want to understand completely how this power supply works. I hope you understand what I am asking and hopefully you will take the time to answer my question. Thank you for your excellent reviews and I sincerely hope you do many more power supply reviews.

@@HardwareBustersGR The problem is that there is no information in the manual and on Gigabyte's website. Many people are trying to get pcie cables but nobody produces them and gigabyte doesn't sell them separately. They also don't reveal the information to their clients. It's madness. I hate this company so much now. My gpu needs 3 separate cables and this so called modular psu is not compatible with any standard modular cable. Even the Chinese sellers on aliexpress don't have any idea how to make them which is also very strange. There is however one company lobfiber that claims that it sells compatible cables but buyers have reported that it is a scam.

it won't, not in the short run. they overloaded it to the point where they saturated the transformer core, way beyond its rated power, and judging by the transformer size they probably reached more than 1.2KW of power. The primary fets are not low quality, the secondary capacitors are not that great but they will probably last for a couple of years.
@HardwareBustersGR4 жыл бұрын
@@trissmerigold7197 If you take a look at the review you will see how much we overloaded it. Also, do you know something g more on the primary FETs and you state that they are NOT of low quality? If so please enlighten me. If you have a quality report on them.
@trissmerigold71974 жыл бұрын
@@HardwareBustersGR i don't have any quality report, I honestly didn't even search for that. I have experience in developing and building pulse power supplies, including resonant ones, and I have used semiconductors of that manufacturer in the past. in-depth tests have shown that they are capable of withstanding the rated current, and I honestly have the impression that you state that just because they exploded. However the fact is that in resonant power supplies it's quite easy to saturate the transformer core with overload, and when you do that the mosfets are basically switching a dead short, and in that case is no surprise that's the way they die. I am NOT stating this is a well designed power supply nor that you should buy it or whatever, only pointing out on these mosfets aspect.

@HardwareBustersGR4 жыл бұрын
As long as you don't overload it, you won't have a problem, and with your system, I highly doubt that you will overload it. I pushed it at 130% of its max-rated-capacity to blow it sky-high. That said, the PSU's protection features should have worked to prevent this from happening. If you can get something better without emptying your wallet, go for it to be extra sure because the capacitors in this PSU are from an unknown brand (and the primary side FETs, too).
@emptyzone85424 жыл бұрын
Dont worry ignacio it will not blow up i have this psu and its working perfectly with i7 10700k overclocked and rtx 3070 had it for few month and its perfect.
@HardwareBustersGR4 жыл бұрын
@@emptyzone8542 Hi, the PSU won't blow but this doesn't mean that it is good, given the low-end parts that it uses. Unless you change PSU every 6-12 months. If this PSU was perfect it should shut down a 130% load without breaking to pieces. So please let's not call perfect a PSU that it works as it should under normal loads and for a very few months. A PSU should protect itself and the system it powers in case of an overload or any other problem and to blow sky-high. I have seen much more affordable PSUs having properly working protection features.
