In this episode of BlacktipH, Josh hooks a gigantic sawfish that measured over 17ft in length and had an estimated weight of over 700lbs. This is the rarest species of fish that Josh has ever caught! This episode was filmed with Chew On This, LunkersTV, Jon B, and APBassing. Sawfish are listed as critically endangered, please follow the steps below if you ever hook one.
► BlacktipH Products:
bit.ly/blacktiph-shop
► NOAA Sawfish Handling and Release Guidelines: bit.ly/sawfish-handling-guidel...
► WHAT TO DO IF YOU HOOK A SAWFISH
1. The safety of the angler comes first
2. Keep the sawfish in the water at all times.
3. Document an estimated length of the fish.
4. Look for any tags or scars that may be on the fish.
5. Get the GPS coordinates of the location where you hooked the fish.
6. Always try to remove the hook, but if you are concerned about your safety, you should cut the line as close to the hook as possible
7. Anglers are permitted to take a photo of the sawfish, but it must remain in the water at all times.
8. The top of the sawfish head must remain in the water at all times. Sawfish take in water through their spiracles which are located on the top of the head.
9. Call the sawfish hotline after you released the fish.
10. Email all data to Sawfish@MyFWC.com and include the following:
Name, Date of encounter and Email address
11. You are permitted to post a sawfish photo online, but it must meet the sawfish handling requirements.

so you didn't see the part where if they had gotten too close it could cut their leg off in a fraction of a second...? Yeah no I'm glad, that thing is so much more dangerous than a bull shark or a tiger shark, it's in shallow water there, it can get up that close to land... They are just swimming by not even looking at you, they see a fish, they do their swish swash cutteroo to get it, and your leg is gone. Stupid sawfish.

Thank you for being so responsible about handling it. I wish everyone showed that level of concern when coming into contact with a critically endangered species. That said; I hope you had the sense to stop and buy a lottery ticket on the way home, because your odds of winning that probably aren't much worse than the odds of hooking into that fish.

Tbh I found it disrespectful to lift its tail like that. He did it for the camera. After it thrashed the bolt cutters away from him I feel it was obvious it needed no assistance regaining its position for return to the depths. That tail thrash was predictable and risky. It's easy to tell that no matter what is going on, viewership is at the forefront of this guys subconscious mind. Cool for us, kinda sucks for the fish.
