You know, I think these people are getting a kick out of being offended. There's something in that anger that gives them so much pleasure. And there are two ways we can play this: 1. Being extremely polite, so that they find nothing to be offended over, thus leaving them dry, with no satisfaction whatsoever. 2. Be yourself, regardless of weither or not they will get offended. I mean they will, but don't slow down for them. If the topic is sensitive - just smash right through it.

Caps don't trigger Anxiety. The people who say that is does don't even have the mental disorder. I struggle with it every day, I have a service dog for it for crying out loud! Stop making an actual disorder "quirky". You make us, the ones who DO struggle, more anxious and upset. The reason it makes me upset is because people now think anxiety is a joke, and is not serious. Anxiety is not normal, or anything that you want to experience. It is awful and ruins your life constantly. You never want to do ANYTHING due to the fact thay you worry about EVERYTHING. If you don't have anxiety stop pretending you do, if you don't have any mental disorder you should be happy. It makes the ones who do have it struggle, especially when the disorder is dumbed down to the simple fact that it must be fake, not real or unimportant, since everyone from Gen Z has it. 🤦
@purplemeemee3 жыл бұрын
I agree. I’m not sure if I have any mental disorders, and a lot of people around me have anxiety, and it literally sucks. It’s really hard watching the people around you suffer, especially people you love, then there’s people trying to act like they know everything, and actually negatively effecting people with anxiety. Like if I put TW in caps I don’t think that’s gonna give someone a panic attack. Also, I hope you find ways to cope and that things get better, anxiety is trash.

I have extreme anxiety (officially diagnosed), I go to therapy for it and used to take medicine for it and everything, but caps don’t trigger me. Situations, however, do. My anxiety is particularly at its worst when it comes to school, because my main anxiety rests in extreme testing anxiety and perfectionism in my work. Social situations also tend to trigger me. I also get really paranoid over worst case scenarios. I also have anxiety over my appearance and how I appear to others. My phobias are amplified. I get full on anxiety attacks, sweaty hands, nervous breakdowns, etc for those things. But caps? I sometimes find them annoying because people who use all caps for every single comment and overuse it annoy me, but I even use caps when I get hyped for something, lol. The only people who would be triggered are people with an extreme phobia for capital letters (I’m pretty sure it’s a thing, there’s a phobia for pretty much everything after all). The people who are offended are making it seem like people with anxiety get triggered over the simplest things. I’m more offended by the people speaking for us than the caps, lol.

I'm autistic and honestly the amount the word "ableism" and "ableist" is being thrown around is pretty harmful. People are gonna see this stuff and think ableism isn't a thing and that it's like a "special snowflake" thing. It takes away from actual ableism going on, like people being denied their academic accommodations or being fired from their jobs for having a disability. Yes, these things are real and they're happened to people I know. They may think they're doing good but honestly it's doing a lot of harm. This goes the same for trigger warnings too, like trigger warnings for serious content like sexual assault and rape are understandable but having them for lots of minor things makes people not take them seriously and is not helping people heal from whatever trauma they may have.

I think the whole thing of using “women” instead of “females” is because you see a lot of creeps and incels referring to women as “females” and “females” alone, so it’s kinda got that “I’m a creep” vibe going for it. For example they’ll say something like “I could never except a female in a position of power”, and other derogatory shit like that, but they only ever say “female”. Not “women”, not “girls”, and not “ladies”. Really fucking weird lmao so I kinda get her
@doctor42583 жыл бұрын

On the subject of calling women ‘females’, sometimes people use the term as an insult. Like, substituting women with female in order to demean the person you’re talking too. There’s nothing wrong with the word in general, tho, just in that context.

yeah saying 'females' is often used to dehumanize (when used in a derogatory way), like for example "females are so emotional" (using it in conjunction with a stereotype). This is dehumanizing because female humans are called women/girls, if you're talking about lets say how a dog (or any animal) would act you would use "females" as well.
@Localhomosexual2 жыл бұрын
Literally don’t understand why they even feel the need to replace the word woman to begin with. I tried to explain that the word refers to an organisms reproductive system and was derogatory and dehumanizing to use as a replacement for woman, and all of my replies were men calling me sensitive or saying “shut up female” or “okay X chromosome” like? Prove my point I guess.

hello! here's an explaination for the "female" thing. The reason why some view it as demeaning is that using "female" only is about their sex organs, whereas "woman" acknowledges their human-ness. I personally don't see it as that big a problem, it just sounds weird tbh
@vaughnhaney70202 жыл бұрын
I refer to women as female and men as male sometimes... Because that's how it is. Usually it's when talking about a more clinical/evolutionary context (ex. "Female hips evolved wider pelvises for childbirth" or something) It's dehumanising if you only use it for one gender tho, or use it to be transphobic or smthn (as a trans man, calling myself male 99% of the time but referring to "female body parts" when necessary, rather than unnecessarily detailed anatomical names or using a more heavily gendered phrase like "lady parts"... *shudder,* is just so much better than the alternative) Ultimately we gotta remember humans are animals and animal terms do apply to us. That's good to acknowledge.
