They are indeed extraordinary. They stick in your mind somehow - they've sure stuck in mine. It is fantastic how they stay in character, and it's amazing how they combine being so outragous and controlled and gentlemanly at the same time.

30 or so years ago i was a budding graphic artist living in the east end traveling into covent garden. One day i got on one of the old style underground trains, the type with bench seats (enough for 3) facing each other with glass panels separating you from the next row. I sat down, looked up and there, sitting bolt upright was George. Perfectly dressed hands on knees. We faced each other. No one shared the seats, it was just George and me. I felt like i was in some kind of surreal art installation. For those few minutes i was so shocked i said nothing. I just enjoyed the moment. Wish i had said hello. Next to opening Tower Bridge once, this was one of those special London moments I will never forget.

Yea I agree, you can also see this style start to creep in from their early work 'Dead boards & Dusty Corners' piece featured at 18:33

I went to see if I could get that piece (before I saw it) like 7 years after it was made and it was only up for 48 hours. I'm disappointed :(

I completely agree, I've tried to find a HD version of this programme for a few years off and on, but I've never been able to find any other version (360p). The show was first aired back in May of 2007 and I believe, it then came out on DVD like many of the other 'Imagine...' programmes in the series. If you do ever manage to find a different copy, out there on your travels please let me know and I'll upload it.

It's only the media (especially art critics who are as about useful as a chocolate teapot) and the Establishment that don't get Gilbert and George. The general public are never given the credit for having an understanding of their art or art in general.

What's the music at the start? I'd hazard a guess at The Future Sound of London, Autechre or Orbital, but I bet none of those are right!

This is so funny because G&G are describing exactly the kind of middle-class art snob that Alan Yentob IS. Look at him aghast that George has a hat made of vintage beaver. The beaver has been dead a long long time. Its a waste not to use its pelt.

100%. What's your opinion of Nick Serota?
@LusciousTwinkle Жыл бұрын
@@henrydemonfreid1985 I don't know... I mean the whole world of art is a complete farce isn't it? At the same time I believe that art is whatever the artist says is art. I don't think you have to be a painter to be an artist... But I do think a lot has been lost from art students not being taught basic drawing skills. I visited the Tate many times during Serotas reign and always enjoyed it. I remember liking his reaction to the Stuckist portrait of him... But thinking it was probably carefully rehearsed.
