@nichotto3 жыл бұрын
Hugleikur Dagsson trouble now is we have celebrity 'artists' and whatever they do is automatically given value. A prime example is Tracy Emin, who was already a celeb on the London art scene when she 'created'' her infamous bed installation, although she now says it is in fact a painting(!?). Any unknown artist who created exactly the same installation wouldn't have been given the time of day - it has no objective value only subjective. We are now being told that she is this wonderful painter and in fact, she always saw herself as a painter (!). The only problem is she is objectively absolutely talentless with a brush. Check out her painting. It's embarrassingly bad and not in a good way. The artist/ critic/ gallery world has become incestuous with careers and profits to maintain. As for the they-made-it-you-didn't justification I remember watching one celeb artist proudly showing his latest work, when an interviewer, also an artist, said he had done exactly the same ten years before. To which the artist retorted, ' But I made it !' The 'I' being the important thing. I myself am the product of art school, St Martin's like Gilbert and George and I now would never call myself an artist. The term has become debased. Maybe I am a non artist and anything I declare not to be art, isn't ! It's taking the readymade to its logical conclusion. I do find Gilbert and Georges stuff jolly but they're from a more innocent less contrived age. Everything now is too self consciously aware.

Jesus people this is meant to be comical, lighten up. It's exactly what you're seeing: two gay men intentionally doing a bad job of getting their groove on. Go ahead and read a bit about what Gilbert and George represented. They pushed the limits of what society considers "acceptable" and "proper" and "appealing" in all sense of the words. I agree that most modern art is crap, and so is this but only in the most literal sense. If you're curious go ahead and google "Naked Shit Pictures (1994)".

@elchafa I know both artists you mentioned and their work as well. I respect "new" forms of art and know how much they influenced the world of art, but honestly: They are not my cup of tea. But I guess everyone likes diffent forms of art, so as long as we keep a certain amount of respect towards other artists we probably don't even like, it's fine for me.

@Smyshies Well, my definition of art covers not only a creative idea, but also effort. Painting a canvas completely blue isn't art for me. I know that art changes over time, but I think without passion, work that you can actually see in the artwork and effort it isn't art. Everyone can create art, but "classic" art like a painting of michelangelo is something not everyone can accomplish. I wanna be stunned saying "woah, that guy sure can paint/draw/sculpt/whatever", if that makes sense to you.

The video shoot took 9 weeks to complete, costing a record £800,000 for the time, and was filmed on location in the South of France. However, despite its overblown production it has compromised none of its artistic message and stands up as an important and relevant piece of work today.

Gilbert & George, "Performance Artistes?" Gilbert & George, "Singing Sculptures?" This is just pretentious crap. I mean these two Euro dolts allegedly "dancing," not the song itself, which is great. Listen to and watch the only legitimate videos of this song, by Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick & Tich. If you want a comic angle on the song, Barbara Eden (TV's "Jeannie" of "I Dream Of Jeannie") at least sings her own version, and in not a bad voice, either.
