The late, great Canadian's sixth and last F1 win was a heroic one - it came at the 1981 Spanish Grand Prix hosted by Jarama.

He was driving in a Ferrari which was a dog shit car back in 1981 and he still managed to win what a legend he really is and he deserves to win a world championship it’s a shame that his career only lasted for five years though

He had the wrong outlook to be a World Champion and didn't have that Lauda or Schumacher ability to make the team work for him. He couldn't cut through the politics of Ferrari like they did. It's been said that he would have done better at a British team. I didn't agree when I read it but I do now.

This is still true.. The driver plays an important role, look how Palmer performed last year with the same car than Hulkenberg.

@AComan-ch5wt 6 жыл бұрын
Soupe 2000 but if you putted palmer in a Mercedes, he would have been a lot faster than Hülkenberg in the Renault. Even tho Hülkenberg is a much better driver. So you can say that the car is more important.
@soupe2000
@soupe2000 6 жыл бұрын
Alex Coman Of course and hopefully ! But when you drive a Mercedes, you have other aims than points, like winning some races, and I don't know that Palmer can win in F1 The car should stay the most important factor in F1, the developpement and engineers costs a lot, I'm 100% against the principle of "everybody have the same car"

The 126CK was a tractor with the best turbo motor of that year installed. That anyone could drive it at all was a miracle. Just look at how Pironi struggled: that was what a "normal" good racer could do, so what Villeneuve achieved was close to godlike.

There's two ways of looking at this performance. One (rightly) that it was an astonishing performance, he dragged performance out of the 126ck that wasn't there, two (debatably) that it showed how aerodynamics were increasingly affecting the battles on track. The simple fact is that Villeneuve was quick enough where he needed to be, nothing like a powerful turbo engine to get the edge on the straights...

@@thethirdman225 That "it's so easy to be critical..." it's pointless, we are just having opinions.
