Gillette Foamy New Scent!

Just giving my opinion on the new Scent for Gillette Foamy Shaving Cream. The new Scent for me is perfectly fine and a nice modern take on a classic Shaving Cream. The new scent is refreshing and goes well with Gillette Aftershave Gell. The scent also washes away quickly in my experience, I use this product with a safety razor and I do a three pass shave everyday with it. So that means I apply the Shaving cream three times everytime I shave. The scent is something my nose got used to quick and it's something that I don't mind.
What are your thoughts on the new scent? Should Gillette leave well enough alone or was it time to update an older product?

I'd be content if they decided to make an updated version and still keep the old scent. This is almost a New Coke vs. Classic Coke thing for me. The new scent is undesirable enough that I will no longer buy any of their products. I'm only one out of many so they probably will never care. So be it.

@@RobertNES816 I been using Gillette foamy for more then 30 years I noticed it has a whole different scent then how it used to smell it used to smell a lot like old spice now it smells similar to cool water sometimes I use Barbasol red can I tried Taylor of bond street I tried using a brush but nothing works like using a can of shaving cream foam works the best

@@mikebarooshian7255 well Taylor Of Old Bond Street is far superior to Gillette Foamy or Barbasol. With anything new you have to give it a chance and learn how to lather it properly, otherwise you'll end up with a lather that's too dry or too thin (wet). In use Taylor Of Old Bond Street has excellent slickness and cushion. The main advantage with a canned shaving cream is that it's ready to go, no real learning curve needed except for face prep.

Gillette’s scent was a classic. Changing it was a bonehead move. I am sure sales will plummet and I will abstain from purchasing it and wait patiently until a see a flash on the can indicating that they have changed it back. Undoubtably some bonehead new brand manager took over the brand and wanted to make a bold statement by changing the scent. Hopefully, he or she is looking for a new job.

The online reviews are very telling, almost universal uproar over the new scent. I wouldn't be surprised to see them change it back or to something similar.

I agree. Changing the scent to something more aggressive doesn't work. It conflicts with my aftershave. Plus, what about those who have to work in a scent-free environment? The original was trusted.

I agree with the poster who says the new formula smells like Raid (insecticide). Not only is the smell bad, it's persistent. I'd been using Foamy for decades. The change reminds me of the "New Coke" debacle, or the "YumTime" product decline in season 1 episode three of "Billions". Meanwhile I just ordered a couple cans of the old formula on EBay for a ridiculous price (after factoring in the shipping.)

The fact that they changed without notifying the customer is unethical. Just to be blunt. Also, cool wave scent isn’t new, it came out in the 90’s. Good video btw.

Yes I've recently seen Gillette commercials from the late 80's advertising Coolwave and even shaving Gell which I thought was from the mid 90's but obviously I was wrong. But yeah I do agree the can should say new scent or something.

I recently purchased a can, the scent has changed but the quality is the same. I'm OK with the new scent.

Yeah I am very upset. I have used Gillette for decades. I was surprised to find my latest purchase had a scent. I could care less about the can design, but there should have been "New Scent" on the can. The scent inside is horrible! I am now looking for some other brand.

You've never tried Tailor Of Old Bond Street Shaving Cream then. Or any artisan Shaving Soaps. Those are strong scents. This is extremely mild by comparison.

I think some people just don't like change. They just exaggerate the new scent. If you've ever tried the cool wave Aftershave then you'll like this scent. It's more mild then cool wave but works well with it.

It stinks so bad!!! I hate it! I'm 61 and have used nothing else since I first started shaving around 1978. A can lasts a long time, so when I went out to buy a new one, the change had already happened and no stores had any old stock left. I went to maybe a dozen places. Several CVS's, Walgreens, Target, 3 Safeway's, 711, Dollar store, etc. The only thing I found was about 5 travel size which I bought. I found out by accident by buying a new can without knowing. I couldn't get the smell off my face! I had to wash it three times! It smells like bug spray! Please Gillette, bring back the old recipe

doubt its bad as the cool wave shaving gel from the 90s or is it? that stuff used to smell so strong and adding the aftershave balm of the same scent was over kill to the nose. only thing that should have a heavy scent is aftershave lotion/splash. guys good reason to try other brands. nivea and proraso do better foams and subtler scents and are dedicated skin care specialist brands

It smells like cheap cologne a teenager would pile on to try and hide the stench of weed smoke. Probably polled really well with younger guys who just started shaving.

Gillette is completely disconnected from its long time customer base. Shick and Barbasol are a great combo of razor and lather. RIP Gillette.

I'm sorry, but the stuff stinks. Not sure how you can say what you are saying unless you didn't really use it before, or your sense of smell was burnt from COVID or something else. I used the original scent for almost 50 years it was very good the scent dissipated quickly. The new scent is completely different, very strong, does not go away at all. I don't like perfume or cologne but this smells like it all day long.

The previous scent was only around since the early 90s according to documents I found online. Before that people complained about the Gillette Foamy having a smell of bacon fat.

@@RobertNES816 umm... I read it differently than you did... I remember when Cool Wave Shaving Gel came out, and I didn't like it then either. To me I read that the complaints about the pig fat was 30 years earlier ( ...three decades ago, when...) than the article (May 11, 1995) that you gave a link to. This would make it 1965 for the pig fat smell complaint and when Gillette introduced a fragrance to Foamy at that time, ...``When people think of how shaving cream is supposed to smell,″. I was around at that time too and to me the fragrance has not change since then, and if has it was not noticeable at all. Unlike the can that I just purchased that has a smell like cheep perfume that last all day long. I even smell when I'm going to bed at night from shaving earlier in the morning. Too bad because I really like the original scent.

@@RobertNES816 The document that you provided a link for was Cool Wave that was introduced in the 90's, not that Gillette Foamy scent changed in the 90's. The Gillette Foamy scent changed in the 60's.

@@KelvinWorks but the document did shoe what Gillette Foamy used to smell like......pig fat. But anyways Gillette just used Cool Wave in the new generation of Foamy. It smells just like my aftershave Gell and coolwave splash but much more subtle.

Just bought the new Scent Gillette Foamy (Phony) Sensitive Skin...been buying Foamy for 45 years...had to toss it out as I am highly allergic. Going to Barbasol.

The old scent was like baby powder but extremely lightly scented. It wasn't anything special. The new scent to me atleast smells nice.

The new scent is pungent, rancid, and disgusting. Was there something wrong with the original scent that required a change? I don't understand why companies do this. I can't use this garbage. Congrats to them on losing a lifelong customer.

I’ve been using Gillette foam for years but I won’t be using it any more! I find the new scent way too strong. It lingers for hours and completely drowns out any aftershave I put on, to the point where I just can’t wait to wash it off! I’ve switched to Barbasol Original - fantastic stuff. Really thick and creamy and a subtle clean fresh scent. Wish I could buy it more easily in the UK.

People certainly get attached to things in perhaps unreasonable ways however I can see how, if you used the same foam for 30 years and then it changes and you legitimately didn't like the change, it would be upsetting. I'm old enough now that it's happened to me a few times and I just had to move on. Honestly, sometimes it's a good thing to be pushed so you have to try other things. Anyway, thanks for the video.

I have to agree with you. Not everyone likes it when something they've used for so long suddenly changes. Me on the other hand it wasn't a big deal since I've been using Foamy on and off for the last 15 years or so, so I have no real connection with it.

The new scent is horrid! It smells like cleaner! I used Edge for decades and recently started to use Gillette Foamy and was very happy with it especially with the scent. Well, the new Foamy is going in the trash and I will go back to using Edge. And by the way, if something isn’t broke, why try to fix it? Do you even know what happened to Coca•Cola when they changed a formula that was 100 years old? New Coke tanked! I am more and more convinced that idiots are running things right into the ground!

I do to lol. It's allot nicer then the very mild powdery scent of the old stuff. The people complaining are the ones who liked the old scent being so mild. The new scent isn't even that strong and goes away pretty quickly. But others say they can't wash it off their face.

Smells like AXE crap to me. I hate it and I'll never go back to Foamy unless they change it back. I think it's ridiculous to change it without warning. Just make a NEW SCENT. How hard can that be? If it takes off, then BAM, they know it's time to let go of the classic.

Hmm Gillette Shaving Cream personally i use Barbasol i have a tough beard and the sensitive formula works the best for me not sure about you good video RobertNES816
