She has stated in other interviews that her father is an alcoholic. That fact perhaps provides some needed context for her answers.

I always assumed this was the case/being around toxic alcoholics in her life since her family owns a brewery, but I've never seen her actually say that. Can you gives links or interview titles please? 🥺

She always plays chracters that are experienced in all kinds of weird shit but she never even had a drink, which is like the opposite of Alison Brie who always plays these nice and innocent charcters but she's really weird in real life lmao. So interesting how everyone has their casting type even if it's totally different from their own self.

Whoa, I 100% relate to what she's getting at about drugs and alcohol. Totally needed to hear that to feel less weird about myself.

Same here. I'm in my mid-twenties now, and even if I have begun to drink very minimally, I was a staunch anti-drinking/anti-smoking/anti-drugs person since my childhood (the latter two are still true). I didn't realize it at the time, but I kept myself from being able to enjoy myself throughout high school and college by staying as far away from that scene as possible. I don't for a second regret not doing drugs and not smoking, but I think I took it to such an extreme level in my head that I actually exiled myself from anybody who did that stuff. It is very possible to socialize with people who do that stuff without doing it yourself. Unless it's like meth or heroin or cocaine. That shit's poison and you should nope the fuck outta there as soon as you can if you see it.

NESherv --But there is a difference between drinking party-mode and just drinking because you enjoy a glass of wine, port or whisky. I mean, personally, I do like to party and my most memorable nights have always been with people drinking, but I can also just enjoy a beer over dinner.

NESherv I'm very happy I don't drink or do drugs, and used to judge people harshly but I just talked to some people in high school about why they did it etc. And no longer judge at all. I don't really judge people in general but, point stands. You don't need drugs and alcohol to enjoy college or school but for some people that's their thing.

The way happen to see who Gillian is through this interviews, her podcasts and articles it is a mind-blowing performance which she showed in Love Netflix as Mickey Dobbs. I mean Britta is a wonderful performance as well yet, she still has the same kindness and caring inside like her but, not as intelligent as Gillian. Mickey on the other hand completely different. Really explosive, mood constantly changing, much more angry aura and etc. There is not a major visible difference yet, her way of talking, the look on her face, so much different than Gillian Jacobs and I love it!

I want to write a book about my experiences growing up through 7th grade to roughly 2 years after I graduated high school (I'm 23 now). I have never had a single sip of alcohol or any drug other than smoking weed twice but the people I hung out with were massive partiers/addicts/dealers. I would go to parties where people were snorting cocaine, smoking weed, snorting pills and I even saw some transactions of heroine a couple times and then I'd go "home" to my buddy's house where he sold weed and drank a fifth of vodka a day and I still never did any of it and AMAZINGLY the other people snorting cocaine and doing heroine actually respected me for it. I guess my point here is that I can relate to her a little bit and understand how bizarre the world of drugs/alcohol or even just smoking cigarettes can seem to someone on the other side

ShellShock794 sounds like a possible Japanese novel as the main character only passively reflects on stuff, but never does anything (either harmful or benevolent), choose a Japanese sounding pseudonym. I'm joking.

1:20 there's a phrase that describes what's she's referring to here: Darkest Timeline but more seriously though, overall she makes a point that is quite important -- so many characteristics we often use to describe and even segregate ourselves ("doesn't smoke, doesn't drink, who we like, don't like") are really just skin deep -- they're just manifestation of the deeper soup within that is much harder to describe

It's more that everyone else, and our societies emphasis on smoking, drugs / alcohol, is what makes it hard for her avoid it. It is easier as an adult vs a teen though.

The character Mickey has sooo much in common with my ex girlfriend. She was a drinker, sex and fast food addict, had daddy issues, was very selfish, aggressive, immature, impulsive, had low self esteem, had depression and anxiety, hormonal imbalances, was very controlling, dominant, rude, manipulative, drama seaking..and yet had many good sides believe it or not. But all in all she was extremely difficult to get along with and I was way too beta and weak at the time to put her in her place or getting out of the relationship. Today I'm very much on the other side of it and have grown a lot thanks to therapy, but I'm also trying to let other guys know - don't get into a relationship with a woman with those kind of narcissistic and wild behavior, she will just keep poking at you and grind you down and never respect you like a real mature and unfelfish woman will.

No, the reason why she is paranoid about drugs and alcohol is because she might be genetically predisposed towards addiction. She has said in other interviews that she has lots of addicts in her family tree and that's why she abstains.
