Yes there’s nuances with league owners & players, how they’d rather have a “winner” (star player) on their team & be able to have crazy profit from the regular season itself, or players with personal accomplishments & goals, absolutely. Doesn’t change the fact of the overall outlook with players, they’d love to get that celebration, ring, parade etc etc - from getting that, if they didn’t get that, they’re technically *losers to the “champions”*

It's oblivious that someone didn't watch Jordan play with the Washingtion Wizards. Yes, Jordan average 20, but it was a hard 20. He was a shell of himself. He quit because he didn't want his career average to drop below 30. He realized he wasn't the same. His confidence, intelligence, and well power were greater to his ability during his time in Washington.
@versatillion15 Жыл бұрын
What’s your point
@sirbluv Жыл бұрын
@versatillion15 Brandon eluded to the fact that Jordan at age 38 would average 45 ppg in today's basketball. When in fact he only average 20 at age 38 in yesterday's basketball. Dudes back then didn't take care of their body's like dudes do today, spending millions. Jordan could have extended his career had he not gamble all night, smoke cigars, and consume liquor.
@versatillion15 Жыл бұрын
@@sirbluv if they didn’t take care of their bodies why are players today getting injured more? & missing more games? Players today definitely smoke & drink liquor. There was just no IG back then for players to post their “training regimen”. Averaging 45 is a stretch but the game is easier today than it was before so I think a 38 year old Jordan could easily average at least 25 today. He averaged 20 when you could be physical on defense so how would he not score more now
@sirbluv Жыл бұрын
@versatillion15 I would argue that players today are bigger, stronger, faster, better shooters, better ball handlers, and more skilled. I would admit that players today suck at playing defense. There is so much importance placed on scoring that defense is an afterthought. Scoring pays. That 2001/2002 Jordan wouldn't fare well today at age 38 and 39. Now, Jordan, at his peak, would crush it.
@sirbluv Жыл бұрын
@versatillion15 About injuries, there is a difference in playing hurt and playing injured. Back in the day, players played hurt all the time. Today's players would refuse to play hurt yet call it an injury. My guess is that players understand that playing hurt could result in serious injury, even worse, end their career, causing financial hardship. I would argue that there were just as many injuries then as there are today. Today's players make way more money and aren't going to play hurt, risking career ending injury.

As a Knicks fan my first thought was they must be crazy, or just sticking up for their boy suggesting Dwight was much better than Ewing, but checking their numbers made their argument better. Ewing's best was 28 pts and 11 boards, and Dwight's was 23 pts and 14 boards. I did not look at block shots. Dwight may have the edge in rebounds , but Ewing was a better offensive player, and his role on the Knicks was the engine of the team from his very first season. Dwight did not have the same importance to his teams that Patrick had with the Knicks and if so that would be a legitimate reason he is not considered as good. So, their suggestion that " It's not even close " is exaggeration and false ! As for reputation Patrick's rep was he gave you 100% plus blood, sweat, and tears every game. That was not Dwight's reputation. So, comparing both of them proves how important a reputation is for " legacy "!

Gil and Shad are both right about winning and having a winners mentality. The problem comes in because they’re saying the same thing whereas it applies to different circumstances. A player can have a winner’s mentality and not be a winner..,i.e “05/06 Kobe”, and player can be a winner without a winner’s mentality because of the team he played on. Jordan is a winner, but he doesn’t have a winner’s mentality. Jimmy Butler has a winner’s mentality, but is not yet a winner.
@gike2755 Жыл бұрын
True. The thing is Gil's definition is catered to his career. Because he doesn't think of himself as a loser he doesn't define winning with accomplishments and he's correct to some extent. This time I feel like Shad was taking shots though 😅

Rashad has a point about the rings and that the main goal in the NBA is to win a championship as that is the end goal but saying your loser without winning one when would be a stretch but technically true in terminology as The NBA Finals are the final round of the playoffs and determine the overall winner NBA Champion for the season, where there will be a loser.
@ineffable_name Жыл бұрын
That aint the end goal of players. That's the end goal of owners because that's more money. You can't actually think these dudes want to have 1 month off every year. A job is a job no matter how fun or how much u make. Humans get tired of doing the same thing everyday. When these guys be talking about how much they love ball, they usually trying to sell you something. Btw, players want to win chips but let's not act like these dudes don't want time off time off to spend some of that money. It's so much to say on this

Crazy we have to break that down when these past few yrs, & even on here a topic has been todays concept of “participation trophy” .. basically the exact same thing… “you have the ‘winning mentality’ so even tho you *didn’t WIN* you’re still a winner, hopefully you keep at it” .. sure keep at it, because you have the winners mentality, but let that LOSS starve you to be more hungry.. The gas behind “the mamba mentality” is literally the shark, competitive (winning) mentality.. What pushed him was to *WIN* .. it’s been highlighted over & over how Kobe & other players not celebrating “a win” with a game because the focus is what makes a player/team a “winner” at the end of the season - the championship lol

34:55 - Gilbert's point about WNBA: There's only 144 spots. A high school player isn't making a WNBA squad. It's not about comfort level or killing the evolution of the player. It's about the infrastructure of the league. NBA has 32 teams and a developmental league. The WNBA has 12 teams w/12 roster spots and no developmental league.

Disagree. There would be some outliers. Even when you could draft high schoolers for the NBA there was never a draft when every player was from HS. Hell there's only been 41 guys in history drafted out of HS. And 17 of those guys were taken in the last 2 years before they ended it. You'd find the occasional 1 or 2 who are capable of being drafted out of HS. But then again due to the money, it wouldn't make sense to skip college for the women where they can get NIL deals.

@@jean-patricepaluku4754 in the WNBA? These owners aside from the bigger spenders like the NY Liberty and Aces owners, only want to spend but so much. @@jonesboi804 exactly. losing doesn’t mean you didn’t have a winning mindset or you didn’t work hard to achieve the prize. however if your team fails to accomplish the ultimate goal then it makes losers. McCants was being technical & Gil was throwing in other variables just to make his point. Gil only thinks you are a winner if you are the #1 option on the team which I disagree with because without your teammates contributions you’ll never succeed. this ain’t boxing, tennis, golf or swimming. basketball is a TEAM sport. losing doesn’t mean your a loser at life it just means you didn’t complete the mission on the court.
