I was thinking "I already knooooow what the alpha channel is", and I do, but I learned something new (with the background color). I still don't know anything about channels, but I'm a beginner and probably don't need to. This was a helpful video for people getting started or who are just past that "getting started" phase. Just what we need to know about transparency and erasing, thanks!

Clapping hands. I used the alpha layer in Gimp meanwhile very often. But never seen such a clear and comprehensive video that is explaining it the was that you did. Thanks.

@dada_the_great2778 жыл бұрын
Splendid, as always. Returned to it after some time to refresh. May be useful to draw an analogy between an image on paper (no transparency, colour when erased is the colour of the paper) and an image on glass (full transparency, what is behind -- if anything is -- shows in the erased region). Hope you keep making more videos on other GIMP features. They are very clear and instructive. How do manage the exact same "Hi guys" and "Thank you for watching" in each video?!!

@Goldenstar7z I agree.... I'm so lost at what she was trying to say here... It removes the section to be a type of invisible layer or what...? I just don't get a definition out of this particular way it was phrased... Didn't see what the positives or negatives much less the objectives based off of it...?Do you need one or is this for a particular situation? This is a great source for tuts... but this one for me missed the objective in 'explaining it'.

Good! But I had a little trouble making out the word "bolded." It can be a little tricky making verbs from adjectives, as the new usage may sound unfamiliar to some listeners. I hate to critique a great presentation on a perfectly normal aspect of the physical presentation, but it would be easier for old ears and brains like mine to process the auditory signal (your voice as recorded) if the frequency was lower...perhaps an octave or so?

I know this is very late but image your picture is a wall and the select/delete is a way to cut a hole in to it . without an alpha channel your view through the hole is a blank wall (background colour ). The Alpha channel is a window to a view i.e. your next layer. You could use this feature if you were merging elements from two different pictures or replacing the background of a picture .
