For reasons that I cannot explain, I always figured Carlos Santana would have covered this. Very hypnotic, beautiful song.

Genius at work! I love when he tried the drums for the first time and exclaimed 'Fuck me! I'm a drummer!" - RIP Ginger Baker.

Ginger's solo here is one of the most impressive things I've ever heard him play.

Yeah but that’s not Ginger Alone on Drums.. it’s Also Tony Allen

@@africaliCulture It's not. Allen wasn't on the sessions for this album. It's Baker and two percussionists. He does do a drum duet with Guy Warren on one track.

@@Loskov-my3xw it is actually.. this was recorded at AbbeyRoad with Fela Kuti and Sandra izsadore along with Upside down and few others.. Ginger chose to use for his solo works. Ima put the story in my podcast since it’s missing kzbin.info/www/bejne/l6qoYnimf6-Hd7M

@@africaliCulture I know the background of the album and the styles of Allen and Baker very well. I gave it a good listen through earlier just in case there might have been some uncredited work on it from Tony, but I can't hear any. You can hear there's only one trapset and it's Bakers with its distinctive tuning backed by the percussion section. listen to the ride cymbal and closed hi-hat work, there's only one at a time and as soon as he goes to the toms (which are clearly Baker's unmistakeable tone) for a fill/two handed pattern, they drop out. THere's also clearly only one snare pattern on each song, other than the obvious drum duet with Warren. If there were two drummers there would be obvious crossover in rhythm's and you would hear the different hi-hat/ride pulses being maintained while one or the other fills. The solo is very minimalist and clearly just Baker, especially if you're familiar with his style. Baker did well adapting to a new style, but Allen is a much funkier player and a master at it; its easy to tell them apart on the few tracks on other albums where they do play together here's the credits for each track from one of the original LP pressings for reference. Its the same as the UK one I have and matches up with what I hear. www.discogs.com/release/2343907-Ginger-Baker-Stratavarious
