Without a doubt, Mary Ann. The two characters even discussed this themselves in the episode with Denny Miller as the man who surfed from Hawaii to the island. Mary Ann said ,"Oh, Ginger, you're so glamorous. I'm more like 'the girl next door'."

Dawn Wells got me my first agent when I moved to Hollywood. I wanted to work in puppetry, and her voice-over agent happened to represent all of Hollywood's puppeteers. So, Dawn gave me a referral. I'll always be forever thankful for her kind support.

My dad had a huge crush on Dawn Wells, he thought Tina Louise/ Ginger was a bit too vein! My parents had a 25th Wedding Anniversary coming up and Dawn Wells was going to be at Beef N’ Boards and, a particular cousin through marriage worked there and, she could get a employee discount, so, she brought dad’s tickets and, got them for him. My dad was over the moon and, just couldn’t stop talking about it for weeks on end! 8:15

I remember when we got our first color TV, we turned it on excitedly only to have a black and white re-run of Gilligan's Island playing! We had to wait for the commercial break to see anything with color until the news came on.

Back in the day, we watched it for the hijinks between Gilligan and the Skipper. Mostly the Skipper because he was so likable. Everyone else was just kind of supporting characters.

PUTING ON MARY ANN, was100% pure genius. A lot of girls think there nothing, when they are dead wrong. Mary Ann gave hope to millions. Ginger might be out of reach, when your 7-years old. All play a big part in the success of the show.

By the time I reached Jr High School, myself and my brothers and sisters had watched every episode of Gilligan's Island more times than we could count. We were able to watch each episode and recite every line of every character in that show. without missing a beat.

Producers originally considered Carroll O’Connor as the Skipper. Alan Hale, Jr. got the role.

The fact that EVERYONE says Mary Ann just shows that both Tina Louise and Dawn Wells played their roles well. Ginger was SUPPOSED to be vain and high maintenance, while Mary Ann was the approachable girl next door. So give Tina a little love, she was a part of the chemistry.

You couldn't go wrong with either one, in terms of eye candy, but Dawn seemed to be more relatable in real life, as well as on screen.

As a young boy I had a crush on MaryAnn. Not Ginger. And watching old movies growing up I liked Betty Grable over Marilyn Monroe. And as I got older I compared Dawn Wells And Betty Gable to each other and Tina Louise to Marilyn Monroe. Dawn and Betty had a wholesome girl next door persona and Tina and Marilyn had a more "easy" personality. And on a special about Gilligan's Island Sherwood Swartz wanted the Ginger character to be more of a wise cracking showgirl type and Tina gave the character a kind of Marilyn personality like with the soft spoken voice. That's all.

Correction: The Skipper and Gilligan WERE imitating Laurel and Hardy just as The Flintstones were imitating The Honeymooners, and the professor was an ENGLISH professor.....not a Science professor. BTW, Maryanne ALL THE WAY! I still lust after her!

The Seven Deadly Sins: Gilligan = Sloth Skipper = Wrath Professor = Pride Mr. Howell = Greed Mrs. Howell = Gluttony Ginger = Lust Mary Ann = Envy In hindsight, and perhaps even now, it was Ginger who was envious (of Mary Ann). In fact Mary Ann is a no-sin genuinely sweet innocent country gal. RIP Dawn Wells.

@selfdo: "The Professor" might've had more game than anyone originally thought. Sherwood Schwartz theorized that in his next Show the "Professor's" WIFE thought him lost at sea.
