The album title comes from a childhood book about the son of a Chinese family that had a really long name. For all my life, I remembered the title being “Rikki Tikki Tembo”. But it wasn’t until I was cleaning out my closet, that I found the book, and saw the title was actually “Tikki Tikki Tembo”. And thus Mandela strikes again.
All the songs on the album deal with some theme of memory, and how they may remain, change, or fade over time. I’m really excited for you all to finally listen to it. And if you have the time, please listen from start to finish with the original track order. And hopefully around the last 2min, you’ll experience a similar nostalgic feeling like how I felt seeing that childhood book for the first time in 18 years.

my actual name is Rikki, and when we read the story of Tikki Tikki Tembo back in school, some of my classmates would then call me Rikki Tikki Tembo. how nostalgic

Have you read "Rikki Tikki Tavi?" From what I could remember it's a story about a mongoose named Rikki-Tikki-Tavi fighting two snakes, Nag and Nagaina. When I looked the story up again it said that was because the two snakes planned to kill the people who saved Rikki-Tikki-Tavi's life. The story ends with Rikki-Tikki-Tavi victorious, declaring themself protector of their family's garden.

Honestly Friend is such a good addition to this album. It really contrats with the rest of it with sounding a lot more calm and slow.. it sounds so eerie in the beginning, but then the beat and vocals hit and the calming vibe of the song hits. Just wonderful. Pleasantly surprised like always with Ginger Root :)

Cameron, you really know how to end an album. With Mahjong Room, Ohio, and with Rikki, the title track. The fadeout and whistle gives me such a sense of longing and closure, like the things that I want to stay or remember, can't, and I just have to accept that. Great job, man.

the first time I listened to this album from beginning to end (just a few weeks ago) I kind of just had it as background music at the same time as I was working. As the album progressed though, even though I wasn't listening with full undivided attention, I could really feel every emotion with every song. When the last track played though and I realized what the title of the album meant and the story that was being told I actually cried! Like, tears! It was such a unique experience for me because like. just wow. it's hard to explain how this album has made me feel but it's like the person the story is about (Cameron?) is me? I felt everything that Cameron felt, through music. And that truly is powerful.
